2027 Subject Selections
It has been a very busy month here in the Sacred Heart (VCE) building, beginning with a wonderful subject expo hosted by the VCE staff for the Year 10 cohort. Students were given the opportunity to investigate their possible future VCE pathway and subjects through discussion and information sessions with various providers including teaching staff, current Year 11 and 12 students and representatives from Go Tafe and Apprenticeships Australia.
Later that night almost 100 students and their families attended the VCE parent information evening, again in our beautiful Sacred Heart building, to hear from the College leadership team regarding the options provided at VCE level here at St Mary’s College. We were very impressed with how well attended this evening was and thank everyone who made the effort to attend.
Last Thursday 6th August, Year 10 students and their parents attended their subject selection interviews to lock in their pathways for next year. There were many excited (and some nervous) faces amongst the students, as they began to make some of the biggest decisions they have had to make so far in their schooling lives. A huge thank you to Mrs Gordon, Mrs Moore, Mrs Wood, Mrs Maskelyne and Mrs Hill for taking the time to assist with these interviews and getting our next year of VCE rolling! A reminder that anyone intending to take up a VET study (Tafe) must submit their Expression of Interest form to Taryn here at school asap.
Year 11 students have also been making big decisions regarding their subjects next year, with any required changes to their program being made this week. Several students who have accelerated in General Maths or Psychology have chosen to take on a sixth subject in Year 12 next year, while quite a few students will continue their study of a particular subject with Virtual Schools Victoria. All changes have now been recorded and subjects are set for next year.

Year 12 Jumpers have arrived!
There were many happy faces around the VCE wing last week as students finally received their long awaited Year 12 jumpers! After what felt like forever, we were able to get the jumpers out and they look fabulous!

Now we need to turn the students’ attention to the end of the year. Particularly as the VM students start to finish up their assessments and turn their attention to moving out into the workforce or future tertiary pathways at the end of Term Three (if all units have attained a Satisfactory result), while the VCE students are gearing up for the looming exam period which begins on Tuesday October 27th with the English exam.
A reminder that all students in Unit 3&4 classes, including some Year 11 students, are expected to attend the practice exam week, which runs over the first week of the school holidays in September. Below is the practice exam timetable and these will be held in the Sacred Heart center. Students are expected to arrive 15 minutes before the start time please.
