Congratulations
Last weekend, the ISA Grand Finals were held at various venues across Sydney, with our BMGS teams competing in a number of sports.
The day began with our First VII Netball team taking on Cranbrook at Netball Central. Cranbrook took an early lead as it took the BMGS girls some time to settle into the game. However, the team showed great composure, gradually finding their rhythm and working their way back into the contest. Unfortunately, Cranbrook’s early lead proved difficult for the BMGS team to overcome. The girls fought hard throughout the match and were able to be more competitive with Cranbrook during the remaining quarters, showing great determination and resilience. Despite their efforts, the early deficit was ultimately too much to recover from. Well done girls on the outstanding effort put into both the game and the season.
Next came the Junior Hockey Grand Final, where BMGS faced Oxley College in a rematch of their round game just a few weeks earlier where BMGS had gone down. Determined to turn the result around, the girls produced an outstanding performance in both attack and defence. With the scores locked at full time, the match went into overtime. The BMGS girls continued to defend strongly and create opportunities, ultimately finishing the match in a draw. This result saw both teams crowned Joint Premiers for 2026—a fantastic achievement and a testament to the girls’ determination, teamwork and never-give-up attitude.
Two of our boys’ football teams were successful in securing a place in the ISA Grand Finals, with both teams representing BMGS with great pride.
The 14 Boys’ Grand Final had the crowd on the edge of their seats for the entire match. With neither team able to score, the game was 0–0 at full time, sending the boys into extra time. A late goal saw BMGS take a 1–0 lead over Oakhill, but with just 15 seconds remaining, Oakhill found an equaliser to level the scores once again.
This saw both the teams still locked together at the final whistle. A penalty shootout followed, and despite some excellent attempts and great composure from the BMGS boys, they ultimately went down 4–2.
While the result was disappointing, the boys can be extremely proud of their efforts throughout the season. Well done on a successful season and on representing BMGS with such determination and pride.
The 13 Boys had the final game of the day, taking on St Patrick’s College. It was always going to be a tough contest, but the boys showed great determination from the outset. They worked the ball around well, putting together some excellent passing sequences and creating a number of opportunities in front of goal.
Once BMGS found the back of the net for their first goal, the boys’ confidence grew, and they continued to build momentum, with another goal to follow. It was a fantastic game to watch, with the boys displaying excellent teamwork, skill and determination throughout.
A well-deserved win for the 13 Boys and a fantastic way to finish the ISA Grand Final day.
Congratulations to the boys on a terrific performance and a very successful season!
Summer Sport Trials
All sporting trials for summer were held this week. Any students who missed the trial must come and see me in my office ASAP.
Summer trainings will commence in Week 8. Teams will be finalised from squads that were named at the end of the trial week.
In the meantime any returning students need to try on both their shorts and singlets to make sure they fit for the upcoming season. Once checked, please email the uniform shop with your number.

Triathlon
Find two friends and enter a team for the NSW All Schools Triathlon. If you have any questions, come and see me at my office. Distances and relevant information is below.
The 2026 NSW All Schools Triathlon Championships – Teams Event is scheduled to be held on Thursday, 5 November, 2026, at the Sydney International Regatta Centre.
Entries close Wednesday, 21 October 2026
Event Details
The championships are open to secondary school students across different age categories.
Distances for each age group are listed below:
Venue: Sydney International Regatta Centre, Castlereagh.
Time: 7:00 AM - 2:00 PM (approx, subject to change).
Any students interested in entering a team should email their team list and the name of each person per event leg to Mrs Harris before the end of term.
Tennis Place Availability
Due to a recent withdrawal, we have a place available in Friday afternoon tennis. If you are interested come and see me at my office or drop me an email.

ISA Athletics Carnival – Term 3 (Tuesday, 15 September)
The ISA Athletics Carnival is coming up soon. If you have been selected for the BMGS Athletics Team, you will have received a permission request to attend the carnival. Make sure you check the list on the sports noticeboard for your events.
If you need to hire a singlet, please do so from the Uniform Shop.
If you are unavailable for any events, please see me in my office ASAP.
Please recheck the noticeboard as some students have picked up extra events due to withdrawals.
If you are not attending the carnival you must still complete the permission form and advise that you are unavailable.

NETBALL SEMI-FINALS - 15 August
Juniors vs. Chevalier
Loss 17 – 21
What a fantastic way to finish the season. Playing in a semi-final for the first time brought plenty of pressure and excitement, but the team handled it incredibly well. The energy was high from the first whistle, and everyone gave their all on the court.
It was great to see the girls put together everything they had been working on throughout the season. Their passing, positioning, teamwork, and confidence were all on display, showing just how much they have learned and improved over the year.
The team worked hard for each other and never gave up, even when the game became challenging. A highlight was their fightback in the final quarter, showing determination and resilience to close the gap and finish only four goals behind.
While the result didn't go our way, there is so much to be proud of. Reaching the semi-finals in their first season, continuing to improve each week, and competing right until the final whistle is a huge achievement.
The growth this team has shown throughout the season has been outstanding, and this semi-final performance was a fitting reflection of that journey. There is plenty to be proud of and plenty to build on when we return next year. Well done, girls!
2nds vs. St Spyridon
Loss 20-29
The team started the semi-final strongly, playing some of their best netball of the season to take an early lead. Great teamwork, strong defence, and patient attacking play had us in control early on.
St Spyridon fought their way back into the game and, despite a determined effort from everyone, we were unable to hold them off in the second half, ending our season.
While the result was disappointing, the team should be incredibly proud of reaching the semi-finals and everything achieved throughout the season. Thank you to all players and supporters for your commitment and effort. It has been a great season, and there is plenty to build on for next year.
