Specialist Classes

Japanese

Students will learn words for counting in sequence from one to ten in Japanese. We will also learn kanji characters for reading and writing numbers up to five. Memory hints connected with the shape of the kanji will support recall. We will utilize flashcards and slide shows to support our learning. Students will also interact with each other in communication games and songs which mimic authentic

pronunciation of Japanese.

Digital Technologies

This term, students across all year levels are diving into the world of coding, computer systems, and digital citizenship through hands-on activities, interactive puzzles on code.org, and unplugged problem-solving games.

Exploring Digital Systems: Students explore how the same hardware (iPads) can run different software apps (e.g., Scratch Jr and code.org) for different purposes, practising logging in using picture passwords.

Sequencing & Algorithms: Learners build simple algorithms (a series of steps in order) off-screen using physical grid cards and on-screen to guide characters through mazes.

Loops: Students identify repeating patterns in code and use repeat blocks to solve puzzles more efficiently with fewer code blocks.

Debugging & Events: Students act as code detectives to find and fix errors (bugs) in short programs. Later in the term, they will explore events (using when clicked blocks) to create interactive scenes in Play Lab where characters move, play sounds, or change costumes upon user interaction.
