Reading

Our reading program this term revolves around four incredible mentor texts: The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson, My Two Blankets by Irena Kobald, Are We There Yet? by Alison Lester, and Somebody’s Land: Welcome to Our Country by Adam Goodes and Ellie Laing. Through these rich picture books, students will build deep knowledge around two main themes: being "Clever, Kind and Courageous," and understanding the special connection First Nations Australians have to Country and Place. Students will practise performing story retells, discussing character traits, exploring creative language features, and analyzing how visual cues add meaning to a text.

Our daily UFLI Phonics program continues to be the foundation of our literacy learning. We engage with UFLI every single day to strengthen letter-sound connections, helping our students become competent and fluent readers. The decodable passages your child brings home directly align with the specific sounds we have practised and explored in class.
