Reading

Our reading sessions will focus on developing students' skills in inferring. Students will also learn to summarise and find the main idea in a text.  We will read a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts to develop these skills. We will also read information reports about countries around the world and the traditional tales from these countries to support our learning in our Geography unit.

Writing

In writing, we will be focusing on the genres of report writing, narrative and recount. Students will develop their understanding of how information reports are structured. They will learn skills to help them gather information, such as note taking, which will help students to gather information to write their own information reports. We will also focus on consolidating spelling and punctuation skills to improve sentence structure and understanding.

Spelling

We will continue with our InitiaLit program, focussing on compound words, silent letters, contractions and suffixes. Supporting spelling, our grammar lessons will focus on conjunctions, verbs and speech marks.

Home Reading

Thank you for the support you are giving your child when they are reading at home and for making a note in their diary each day. This really does help to support and encourage good reading habits, practise effective reading strategies and to develop vocabulary. We are continuing to work on our 40 nights of reading challenge, where children can earn a small reward at the end of term. Make sure to fill out the reader diary and colour in one book for each night you read!
