Juniors: Celebrating First Eucharist

At our recent assembly, our Junior students celebrated and prayed for the Grade 4 students who received the Sacrament of First Eucharist. The Juniors shared the meaning of the Eucharist through special images they had coloured, reflecting on the Last Supper, Holy Communion, our Church community and how we can share God’s love with others.

To mark this special milestone, each Junior student also created a bookmark for a Grade 4 student as a keepsake and reminder of their special day.

We finished our celebration with this prayer:

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for loving us.

Thank you for the gift of the Eucharist and for bringing us together as God's family.

Thank you for our Grade 4 friends and for the special day they celebrated.

Bless them as they continue their journey with you.

Help them to always remember that you are with them wherever they go.

Help all of us to be kind, caring and welcoming, just as you taught us.

May we share your love with our families, our friends and everyone we meet.

Amen.

Year 3-4 Teal... know A LOT about Ancient Rome

Year 3-4 Teal recently learnt about Ancient Rome and shared the knowledge they gained about the people, places, government and religion of Roman society.

People such as the Patricians (the ruling class) and the Plebeians (the working class) and slaves. Important figures such as Julius Caesar and also the twins Romulus and Remus who it is said formed Rome. Teal explained the importance of buildings such as the Forum (government), Colosseum (entertainment and gladiators) and Parthenon (religion) to the Ancient Romans and how the ruins of the city of Pompeii help us to see how Romans lived and the beautiful mosaic art that they are famous for.

Physical Education (PE) News

Our 5/6 students have had a very busy and successful month in PE. On Tuesday 22nd July, nine of our talented year 5/6 students competed in the Division Mixed Netball event, coached by Miss Mawer. The team put up a great fight winning their first two games and then drawing on their third round robin match. These results secured the team to play in the division finals later that day. They were up against some tough competitors and lost in the finals round. We are so proud of Maddie, Rose, Ivy, Georgia, Clem, Desi, Natasha, Hannah and Oscar. Well done for getting this far.

On Tuesday 28th July, four teams were entered into the HoopTime competition at the State Basketball Centre. All teams had a great day and showed great sportsmanship when winning and losing their matches. Our mixed St Luke's Echidnas team were undefeated, winning the day's grand final in the future stars division. This team will be progressing to the HoopTime Regional competition in October (date and location to be confirmed). Congratulations to Ollie, Clem, Lucas, Jacob, Tilly, Ria, Hannah and coach, Lucas' mum, Tanya.

Then on Friday 7th August, all the year 5/6 students participated in the District Basketball event at Nunawading Stadium against five other local schools. This was a fantastic day, we had three girls teams and two boys teams. One of the girls teams and two of the boys teams progressed to the semi-finals, just missing out on getting through to division. We were very proud of all the students demonstrating St Luke's values and trying their best.

NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK

National Science Week starts tomorrow.

"The school theme for National Science

Week in 2026 is Seeds of Science: nurturing science for all.

This theme invites students across Australia to explore the power of curiosity, inquiry and shared learning in growing scientific understanding.

Just as seeds need the right conditions to grow, knowledge flourishes when it is nurtured, shared and applied to real-world and authentic challenges across all the scientific disciplines.

The theme encourages schools to explore how ideas take root, develop and spread – from the first spark of a question to the sharing of discoveries that benefit the wider community.

In STEM next week we will be having some fun activities related to this years theme.
