Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Guardians,

RESCHEDULED KINDERGARTEN + YEAR 1 SPORT DAY

This will now be held on Tuesday 8 September between 11:30 - 1:30. Parents / Carers are welcome to join the students on this day.

PARENT / TEACHER / STUDENT INTERVIEW PROCESS

As everyone is aware, this was the first year that our School introduced the inclusion of students to our interview process.

The recent survey of both parents / carers and teachers produced the following results:

FROM STAFF:

87% stated it was useful to have the students involved in the interviews.

93% stated the student goal-setting meetings were either very effective or effective.

87% stated that they would like to have the students involved again next year.

FROM PARENTS / CARERS:

72% felt it was useful to have the students involved in the interview AND would like the interviews to stay like this next year.

The inclusion of individual goals was highlighted as a positive feature that should be maintained, and the initiative overall was described as a successful and appreciated effort.

Moving forward, as a School we will continue to look at ways of ensuring our students continue to be active participants in their own learning and provide information to help parents maximize the opportunities that come with having their children as part of the interview process.

CHILLED BUBBLER

In response to a request from the Parent Group the School is organising the installation of a free-standing chilled water near the canteen. This will allow the students to fill up their drink bottles more easily.

BOOK FAIR

Next week our School will be having a Book Fair where parents / carers will be able to purchase books for the children.

This will be open on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings (8:15 - 9:00) and on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon until 3:45.

If you would like to purchase a book to donate to the library, please choose a book from the Book Cases or see our suggested books at the donation table. Please bring book donations to our payment counter. All donations are gratefully accepted and will be acknowledged with a donation plaque inside the book cover.

PARENT GROUP MEETING

Thank you to those parents who came along to the meeting, or joined us online, on Monday evening. A couple of key points:

  • The School will be running the Bunnings BBQ ( major fundraising event) at Kirrawee on SATURDAY 29 AUGUST. All money raised will be used to support our students. Thank you to the parents who have already offered to help out on the day. If you would like to help out for an hour or two and have not already notified the Office, please send through an email with your name and contact number.
  • One of the Parent Groups' goals is to upgrade the Stage 2 Playground using money raised from the fundraising efforts. At this time they are inviting Parents / Carers to submit ideas / suggestions about what this upgrade might include. If you would like to contribute please email your thoughts to pnf.01908@sydstu.catholic.edu.au
  • We are looking for some parents who are interested in learning more about the leadership structure of the Parent Group, with the hope that they may take on a support role next year. Again you are asked to email the address above with your name, contact number and child's class. Unless we can find parents / carers interested in being involved then the future of the Parent Group will be in question.

My thanks to both Nicole Karagiannis (President) and Nicole Hudson (Secretary) for the great job they do in leading this Group for our School.

The minutes from the meeting can be found here.

Kind regards,

Steve Darcy (Principal)
