Year 1 - Kodie Parry

We have had a fantastic start to the term in Year 1. Students have settled in beautifully and shown great enthusiasm across all learning areas. One of our highlights was participating in the Planetarium incursion, where we explored Earth, our solar system, and the wonders of space. The children were captivated as they learned about planets, stars, and how our world fits into the universe. We have been working hard every day, collaborating, sharing ideas, and making wonderful progress in all areas of learning.

In English, students have been learning how to create persuasive writing using strong language to convince and influence their audience. We have been studying the text Somebody Swallowed Stanley and exploring the dangers of pollution for sea life. Students created multimodal posters to teach others about the importance of protecting our oceans. We also became “mini teachers” by using our own writing checklists to self‑correct our work before handing it in.

In Maths, we have been using number bonds to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and collaborating with each other to solve problems. In Religion, we have been learning about the importance of gathering together at Mass and what it means for our community. In Geography, students have been exploring the differences between natural and human‑made places and identifying features in their local environment.

Year 2 Aoife Geraghty

Year 2 have been busy bees over the past fortnight, diving into learning across English, Maths, and our wider school community.

In English, students have been exploring perspective and argument writing through The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. They have been learning how authors use rhetorical questions to persuade their readers and have been practising both compound sentences and complex sentences to strengthen their writing.

In Maths, Year 2 is investigating 2D shapes and 3D objects, counting and describing their vertices, edges, and faces. Students have enjoyed hands-on activities and real‑world examples to help them recognise shapes in the environment around them!

Last Friday, the children enjoyed a wonderful afternoon visiting the residents at Little Sisters of the Poor alongside our Kindy friends. This special visit gave students the chance to chat with residents, listen to their stories, sing a few favourite songs, and share smiles across generations. The residents kindly offered the children some delicious cookies for their journey home — a beautiful gesture that made the afternoon even sweeter. 

Last Thursday, we were delighted to welcome many grandparents and special visitors into our classroom before Mass. Year 2 had been working hard on a beautiful piece of writing about special moments they cherish with their grandparents, and these were proudly published and displayed for all who were able to visit. It was a heartwarming morning filled with smiles, stories, and a beautiful sense of community. .
