Literacy & Numeracy Week

What a week of activities! Last week students took part in a range of activities, including: shortlist book read alouds from leadership, Puppet Kerfuffle incursion and door decorations. Father's Day

Thank you to the Parents, Carers and Friends Committee (PCFA) for running the Father's Day stall and supporting the Father's Day breakfast today.

Today was our Father's Day breakfast, so a big thank you to everyone who joined us! 

We were most excited to host our Father’s Day Breakfast, serving up delicious egg and bacon rolls in celebration of the amazing fathers and father figures in our community. There were games to get involved in and a host of lucky prize winners. We appreciate the time all our father figures took to join us in their busy schedules and hope that a few friendships were formed, and now a few faces will be familiar. 

We’re especially grateful for the generous support from Angela, Jessica and Emma from PlumbWorx & Excavations, whose donation helped make this event possible. Congratulations to John Lardizabal, Daniel Borg, Rod Tobin, Adam Dispinzeri and Wasim Al-Abboodi, who were the lucky winners of the prizes.

Thanks to all who attended, volunteered, and contributed—your presence made this a truly positive and meaningful community event and we look forward to making this a tradition for years to come!

Protective Policing Unit Visit

This week we had the local community Police visit our school. Our Year 5 to 12 students had the opportunity to attend a presentation about Cyber Safety, Respect and their work in the community. Our students really enjoyed this opportunity to connect with our local police in a positive manner. 

SunSmart for Spring and Summer

Hats

For Primary students from mid-August to end-April 2026, all students must wear a sun-protective hat that shades the face, neck and ears for all outdoor activities. Hats may also be worn for all outdoor activities outside of the August to April time period, by parent or student choice.

Hats can be purchased for as little as $6 at Kmart. We remind families to ensure your child's name is written on the hat as we have many hats which look exactly the same. 

For Secondary students we expect students to take responsibility for their sun safety by wearing a hat during outdoor activities and adopting other sun protection measures such as wearing sunscreen or using shade. Secondary students may wish to wear a cap instead, however we always recommend a wide-brimmed bucket hat for the best sun protection.

Many of our students find it difficult to know when to dress appropriately. They need constant reminders and prompting to wear sun hats and take off coats/jumpers in hot weather. On extreme heat days (adverse weather) our students may spend recess and lunch inside rather than playing outside. 

Sunscreen

Jackson School encourages all staff and students to apply SPF30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen daily whenever UV levels reach 3 and above. Sunscreen should be applied at least 20 minutes before going outdoors and reapplied every two hours (or more frequently if sweating or swimming).

Jackson School supplies Woolworths Sunscreen Lotion, SPF50+. water-resistant sunscreen for staff and students to use. It is readily accessible in all classrooms and shared staff spaces.   

Jackson School has strategies in place to remind students to apply sunscreen before going outdoors through reminder notices, sunscreen visuals and sunscreen stations.

R U OK? Day

Next Friday Jackson School will be holding activities for R U OK? Day. Students will have the opportuntity to participate in fun adventures through out the day and enjoy a sausage sizzle lunch! Students and staff are encouraged to wearing yellow to school.
