One of the highlights of Term 3 is always Book Week, and for students and staff alike, we absolutely adore the Book Week Parade!
There is always such anticipation as we wait to see each other’s costumes, followed by plenty of laughter when we spot the funny ones, and admiration for the costumes that are original, inventive and incredibly clever. Most importantly, it is wonderful to see how thoughtfully so many costumes connect to much-loved books and characters even though teachers and st were left feeling a little sheepish!
The Book Week Parade is a special event that brings our whole school community together. It is inspiring to see our students, staff and families sharing in the joy of books, reading and storytelling. The sense of excitement and celebration throughout the school is truly wonderful.
While the parade is certainly a highlight, the most important part of Book Week is the opportunity it provides to promote and celebrate children’s literacy. Across the week, students participate in a range of engaging activities designed to nurture a love of reading and writing, including author visits, buddy activities and opportunities to share favourite books and stories. It's no wonder that our students are such enthusiastic readers and talented young authors. Book Week is a wonderful reminder of the power of books to inspire imagination, creativity and a lifelong love of learning.

Wednesday 2nd September
Next Wednesday, the PFA will be running the annual Father’s Day Stall. This is an opportunity for students to buy small gifts for their Dad, Grandfather, or other special person in their life.
The gifts range from $2 - $10. Items available include photo frames, magnets, socks, mugs, keyrings, tradie tools, caps, beanies, showbags and MUCH MORE!
If you would like your child to have the opportunity to participate, please send along some money in a labelled envelope or wallet and a bag, to take their goodies home in. Coins and small notes are appreciated. Please do not bring large amounts of cash to school.
The stall will be open for a short time at the end of the school day to purchase any excess items.

Father’s Day Breakfast, Thursday 3rd September
All Dads and special friends of IPS are invited to join us for the annual Father’s Day breakfast on Thursday, 3rd September from 7:30am to 8:30am in the school hall.
Please place your food and drink orders via the MySchoolConnect App (www.myschoolconnect.com.au) prior to 9am on Monday, 30th August.
There will also be a coffee van at School that morning for you to purchase coffee separately.

For families of students who have sat ICAS exams, ICAS will email you directly as each assessment’s results are released. The email will guide you to access the results through the portal.
Once all ICAS certificates arrive at school, we will present Distinction and High Distinction awards at a school assembly and families will be notified prior via the school school newsletter.
Participation, Merit, and Credit certificates will be distributed and celebrated within students’ classrooms.

Well done to all the students who took part! There were over 100 students from IPS participating, alongside close to 100,000 students from across Australia. What an incredible achievement!
Respect for diversity is an important part of the Victorian Curriculum. On 28th August, students are invited to wear a splash of purple to help celebrate diversity.
On Thursday 10 September, Ivanhoe Primary School will be recognising R U OK? Day, Australia's national day of action that reminds us of the importance of checking in with the people around us. By simply asking, "Are you OK?", listening without judgement and encouraging support when needed, we can help others feel seen, valued and connected.
Throughout the day, students will participate in age-appropriate classroom activities and discussions that promote kindness, empathy and looking out for one another. These learning experiences help students develop positive relationships, build emotional awareness and understand that it's okay to ask for help when they need it. Together, we are continuing to foster a caring, inclusive and supportive school community where everyone feels they belong.

Our school is conducting the annualParent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey and is seeking your feedback. The survey, offered by the Department of Education, is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.
Please check your email to see if you were a member of the random sample of families that was sent an invitation to complete the survey.
The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026.
Your opinions are important to us and will contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.
The survey is being conducted online and only takes 20 minutes to complete. If you require assistance in completing the survey, please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school if you require assistance in another language.

We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of Zoe T in year 4 and Violet E-S in year 6, who both represented their state at the Australian Athletics Cross Country Championships over the weekend. The national event was held in Ballarat and brought together some of the country’s best young cross-country runners.
The conditions were incredibly challenging, with periods of rain, progressive hills, huge puddles and plenty of mud making the course particularly demanding. Spike shoes were certainly essential to maintain grip!
Both girls performed exceptionally well in these tough conditions. In the Under 11 Girls event, Zoe finished an outstanding 8th in Australia from a field of 74 competitors and was part of the 2nd-placed overall team, coming home with a well-deserved National medal.
Violet also ran strongly in the Under 13 Girls, finishing 38th out of 64 runners in a highly competitive national field.
Well done to both Zoe and Violet for their determination, resilience and commitment. What a fantastic achievement to compete at a national level! Head over the IPS Sport page for more info.
The Strings Program students and school choir are busy preparing for their upcoming performance at Night of Music on Saturday 5th September at IGGS Performing Arts Centre and on Monday, the whole school was treated to a wonderful preview at assembly.
As part of their preparation and practice, our musicians and singers performed a couple of short pieces for the school community. It was wonderful to see the audience so engaged, with students listening attentively and showing their appreciation throughout the performances.
Everyone was amazed by how polished and professional the performances sounded. The confidence, skill and commitment demonstrated by our students are a wonderful reflection of the hard work they have put into rehearsals. If you'd like to see more head over to the Strings News page.
We are incredibly proud of our Strings and Choir students and look forward to seeing them take to the stage next week. We wish them all the very best for their upcoming performance!
