Grade 2 and 3 Cooking
Week 4
In Cooking Week 4 Grade 2 and 3 made Caramelised Pumpkin Pizzas, Margherita Pizzas and Potato and Rosemary Pizzas with a Salad of the Imagination.
We used garlic, celery, thyme, rosemary, parsley, mustard greens, lettuce and silverbeet from the garden.
Ella, Matilda, Aleida and Bobbie worked with Hannah to make the GF Oil free Sweet Potato Pizzas. They chopped and cooked the sweet potato and silverbeet and mixed in the herbs. They kneaded and shaped the Gluten Free pizza dough into 2 pizzas.
Kristie’s group made the Potato and Rosemary Pizzas. They peeled and sliced the potato thinly. Phoebe and Pete and their team chopped the garlic finely and the rosemary leaves finely. They then mixed them with olive oil ready to add to the pizzas.
Alysha’s group, prepared the ingredients for the Margherita Pizza. Johnny cooked the onions and tomato passata and herbs to make the delicious sauce. Oliver, Zak and their group grated the mozzarella and parmesan cheeses.
For Caramelised Pumpkin Pizzas, Nicholas, Augie, Noah and their group peeled the pumpkin and sliced it and cut it into 1cm pieces. Elio sliced the silverbeet into small pieces. They cooked the pumpkin with the spices and sugar and added the silverbeet when it was cooked.
After recess, we learnt how to knead the pizza dough until it was soft and elastic, and roll out and shape the pizza dough into 6 large pizzas. Then we all worked together to layer the ingredients for the Caramelised Pumpkin Pizzas, Margherita Pizzas and Potato and Rosemary Pizzas.
While the pizzas were cooking, everyone cleaned down the tables. Percy and Noah, rinsed and washed the dishes. Poppie and Augie swept and Phoebe and Pete and their group set the tables. Ella, Aleida and Matilda and their team harvested greens and herbs for the Salad of the Imagination and gathered flowers for the table.
Jesse took lots of great photos of the cooking.
Well done Grade 2 and 3 for a great cooking session and thanks Kristie, Hannah and Alysha.
The recipes for the dishes we cooked are attached.

Year 5 and 6 Cooking Term 3
Week 3
In Cooking, this week, Grade 5 and 6 were joined by some of Grade 4 and 5 students. We cooked Potato Gnocchi with Vegetable Bolognese and Herb and Cheese Bread, with Salad of the Imagination.
From the garden we used garlic, parsley, chives, thyme, oregano, spring onions, mizuna, herbs, greens and spinach.
Alfie, Levi, Pat, Liv, Clem and Frankie made the Vegetable Bolognese. They chopped the onions, garlic, herbs and chopped the zucchini and pumpkin into small pieces. They fried the vegetables, then added the tomato passata, tomatoes and stock, then they tasted the sauce as it cooked and added the herbs and spices to make a delicious Veggie Bolognese sauce.
Chloe, Grace, Cooper, Perla, Thea and Owen made the mixture for the Potato Gnocchi. Perla and Thea peeled the cooked potatoes and used the potato ricer to mash the potatoes. Chloe and Cooper grated the cheese and measured out the flour and seasonings for the gnocchi mixture. They mixed the gnocchi mixture and adjusted the seasoning, ready for the class to make the gnocchi after recess.
As they cooked, Grace and Thea ticked the steps off the recipe to make sure their group completed all the tasks for the Gnocchi.
Ivy, Romy, Heidi, Harper and Ulla worked with Emma to make the Herb and Cheese bread. It’s the first time we’ve made this No Yeast bread. They mixed the dry ingredients and grated the cheeses and chopped the herbs and garlic, then layered the dough, herbs and cheese in the loaf tins.
After recess, we all worked together to learn how to roll, cut and use a fork to form the potato gnocchi. Chloe and Frankie and their team cooked the gnocchi in boiling water and made sure they waited until the gnocchi floated to the top so they knew it was ready, Owen and Alfie and Cooper and their team finished cooking the Vegetable Bolognese and dished it out into casserole dishes and topped it with the gnocchi as it was cooked. It was great teamwork! We kept it warm while the Herb and Cheese bread finished cooking. The bread took a little longer to cook than planned but it was worth it.
While the bread was baking and the gnocchi was cooking, Ulla and their group harvested herbs, greens, mizuna, spinach and edible flowers and made a delicious salad and Romy and her team made the delicious dressing for the salad.
As we were cooking Patrick, Levi and Harper cleared the tables, rinsed the dishes and loaded the dishwasher and dried the dishes.
Liv and their team set the tables and Grace grated and plated up the parmesan cheese. Everyone tried what we cooked, and thought it was delicious. Great cooking and teamwork Grade 4, 5 and 6 and thanks Emma.
The recipes are attached.
This is what Grade 4, 5 and 6 said about their cooking session this week…
The Potato Gnocchi was really good. Patrick
When I was eating the potato gnocchi, I even forgot it was made out of potatoes, I don’t usually like potatoes. Chloe
I think the parmesan cheese that Cooper, Chloe and Grace grated, was a nice touch. I put it on the salad and the gnocchi. Harper
The sauce had the perfect amount of garlic. I chopped the garlic finely and put two more cloves in than it said in the recipe. Levi
