In our Classrooms

Prep/One Class

It has been a little hard to capture this adventurous group in action over the past few weeks due to their extensive travels through different spheres and galaxies. You know, the usual challenges of communicating across different time zones, light years and distant planets!

I have, however, managed to intercept a message from their captain, Marcus, who shared some of what the class has been up to during their journey.

Students have been creating personalised Ready to Learn machines, complete with levers, toggles and faces to help them identify how their bodies are feeling and the tools or strategies that might help them regulate and get ready for learning.

Shane, our Education Support staff member, has also joined the crew and has been busy getting to know the wonderful students in the class. He has been supporting reading, writing, maths and everything in between.

As the class continues its journey into space, preparations to meet new alien creatures have also ramped up. This week, students explored Semiotic Standard, 8-bit numbers and Kaktovik numerals to personalise their space helmets.

The class continues to build its knowledge of the four spheres of each planet: the geosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere. Students are developing their scientific vocabulary and using it to describe the different environments and ecosystems they encounter along the way.

Home Readers

We also have F/1 Home Reader packs ready to go. These will be sent home this week and include some information about our approach to reading, ideas for supporting reading at home, decodable readers, heart words and a few simple games to enjoy together.

The packs are designed to give families some easy, practical ways to support the reading skills students are developing at school.

Two/Three Class

Our Year 2/3 students have continued to build their knowledge of the four spheres of Earth: the geosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere. They are using their growing scientific vocabulary to describe the ecosystems they encounter and explain how the different spheres interact.

Plans are also well underway for the creation of their landscapes and dioramas. Students have been writing information texts to accompany their creations and share what they have learned.

Students have also developed individual Ready to Learn plans to support regulation and help them identify what their bodies and minds need to be ready for learning. Each student has created a personalised toolbox of activities, strategies and resources they can draw on throughout the day.

The class has continued to join the F/1 students for Outdoor Investigations, with plenty of cubby building, Gaga Ball, soccer, sitting by the fire, tree climbing and other activities that encourage teamwork, creativity, problem-solving and play.

Four/Five/Six Class

The students have applied, interviewed and been appointed to a range of roles across our new multimodal media enterprise — which is yet to be officially named!

The newly established media corporation held its first professional development session on Friday, where students worked on building trust and teamwork, developing their understanding of the different roles within the organisation, and establishing clear responsibilities.

We are excited to see what this talented team produces over the coming months, with a range of publications and media projects already beginning to take shape.

I’ll share a full list of roles and employees, along with some photos from the first PD session, soon.
