Principal's Update

Hello everyone,
There has been plenty happening around the school over the past couple of weeks, with lots of activity in the yard, new lunchtime clubs getting underway and a few projects around the school starting to take shape.
Lunch Clubs
Tennis
We have been running a tennis club a few days a week, which has now turned into a morphing series of tennis-based activities. There have been simple rallies, different games and, at one point, a version of tennis that started to resemble a very friendly game of dodgeball.
This week, the nets have come out and students are honing their skills and shots as they try to keep the rallies going.
It is also worth mentioning how respectful the students have been of each other and the equipment. Students of different ages are playing together, including each other and taking responsibility for packing everything away. The rackets and balls are brought back into Jess’s office after each session, and the nets are carefully carried back under cover.
This means the equipment stays in good condition and can be enjoyed by everyone for a long time. As the weather warms up, we will also spend some time sorting through the sports shed, organising what we have and updating some of our equipment.
Woodwork
We have some very enthusiastic students who are keen to make and build things, so we decided to give a lunchtime building and making club a go.
The first session was a great success and, after camp, we are planning to make it a regular occurrence. Students helped sort through some of the tools we had stored in filing cabinets and started working out what we already have and what we will need for our woodwork workshop.
Students spent the session removing nails from old pallets, coming up with ideas, measuring, cutting and nailing things back together. Sid, Rui and Douglas knocked up a rustic ladder in no time — we will test its durability at our next session! Elio started making a coat rack using some of the old bent spoons left over from a 5/6 Makers Market in years past, while Poppie, Aledia and Cooper removed nails and started planning their own creations.
Woodwork Workshop
A massive thank you to everyone who helped at the working bee the other weekend.
There were a few trips to the tip, but the sheds are now emptied and we are at the point where we can start putting the workshop together. The next steps are to install a couple of windows, move the benches in, build some tool and timber storage, and put some benches around the shed for students to sit and work at.
There is lots of excitement about the workshop from students, families and the wider community. We are looking forward to getting it finished, purchasing some new tools and having it ready for action before the end of term.
School Grounds
Our new school mower is starting to get a decent workout. Jess did a quick zip around on Friday before the wild weather arrived over the weekend.
We also have a new whipper snipper and blower, which will help us keep the school grounds looking good, tidy and safe.
New Staff
Sue Pearson will be teaching in F/1 on Tuesdays for the remainder of Term 3.
Sue is an experienced junior primary teacher who has taught locally for a number of years and has also worked with us as a relief teacher. We are very pleased to have her joining the team.
Experience Taradale Transition Sessions
We also have several transition sessions coming up this term. Please see the session details below.
These sessions are open to families considering Taradale Primary School for Prep or another year level in 2027, as well as families who may be considering the school in future years.
Please feel free to share this information with anyone who may be interested.
Taradale Beanies
Taradale beanies are back in stock and are available for $22 each.
Breakfast Club Volunteers
We are seeking additional volunteers to help run Breakfast Club each morning from 8:30–9:00am.
Taradale Primary School participates in the Foodbank Victoria Breakfast Club program, which provides food at no cost for students. While all students are welcome, we rely on volunteers to make this possible.
If you are able to assist or would like more information, please contact the office.
OSHC (Out of School Hours Care)
OSHC is available after school each day.
