POETRY VISIT- JOEL MCKERROW 

Last Thursday, Joel McKerrow returned to Oberon to perform to and inspire our Year 7s as they begin their poetry unit. Joel’s published and recorded work is extensive, including novels, anthologies, slam poetry, performance poetry as well as musical releases. Under Joel’s guidance, our Year 7s were able to produce a piece of poetry that jumped from a concrete to an abstract idea. Joel encourages students to write using stream of consciousness which means students don’t filter their ideas until they are out on the page – it was a great way to get started.
