SPECIALIST FEATURE NEWS
你 好 (ni hao) Welcome to our Specialists’ corner!
We have had a great start to Term Four with the senior children training and competing at the District Athletics. Two children progressed to the Regional Athletics competition, with our 10-year-old boys narrowly missing out in their 4x100m Relay event. All students started Week One by completing certain skills, such as throwing, catching, kicking, and hitting, to assist with assessment.
The students from Foundation to Grade Two have completed lessons on two-handed striking with a foam T-Ball bat. They have played a modified T-Ball game to develop and reinforce their hitting, throwing, and catching skills.
The students in Grade 3/4 have completed a unit on Newcombe, which is the lead-in to Volleyball that they will play at the Grade 4 Gala Day in Term One. We completed skill sessions to develop our throwing and catching, then finished with a game.
The Grade 5/6 students have practised the skills of digging, setting and spiking during our unit on Volleyball. We finished each lesson with a game to develop and consolidate the skills needed in a Volleyball game. Also, from late last term, the boys' and girls' cricket teams have been training to prepare for today's Division Cricket competition.
In the last week of Term Three, the students had a great time participating in our Footy Tabloid activities, including handball target, tacklebag and goal kicking. Some children dressed up in their favourite sports team colours to get into the spirit of the day. During P.E. lessons, the students completed a range of skills to prepare them for the rotations.
The Oval
The workers have been adding various types of sand to the new grass on the oval, and the sprinklers have been on to ensure the grass grows and settles properly. Hopefully, with the weekend rain, we will be able to use the Oval in week 5 or 6, once it has fully sown and settled, so the children can use it for playtimes and Physical education classes.
