Year 10 Crime and Politics Excursion

On Thursday 8th October Mrs Graham's Crime and Politics class travelled into the city to watch cases at the Melbourne Magistrate's Court. Students watched a variety of cases but coincidentally, most of them involved burglary. The process of moving through security, moving between and entering and exiting courtrooms demonstrating the required behaviours (i.e. bowing to the Magistrate) was a learning experience in itself!

We then travelled back to Realm in Ringwood to meet the Mayor of Maroondah, Cr Linda Hancock, and Maroondah City Council staff to learn about the 100+ services provided to our community by local government. Students were able to sit at the Council table in the Chamber where decisions are made by our representatives and find out all about some of the exciting and important work the Youth Services and Local Laws teams do every day. With lunch at Eastland and a beautiful sunny blue sky overhead it was a great day had by all. Thanks to the Governance team at Maroondah Council for organising our visit.
