Junior and Senior Badminton
Our junior and senior badminton teams recently represented our school playing at the dedicated Badminton facility in Altona. They played against some serious competition and were able to win a number of games in the process, both singles and doubles. The best part of the days was seeing all competitors having fun and representing the school with pride.
Division Athletics
On Thursday 5th September a team of 50 athletes from Gisborne Secondary College braved the cold and windy conditions to compete in the Western Ranges Division Athletics at Melton. Unfortunately, the windy conditions marred many of the track events making that track slippery and new records not be allowed for the day.
Despite the weather conditions there were some remarkable performances and gallant efforts from our students.
Ben is running at his best managing 10:38.42 to win his 3000m easily while Isabelle taunted the opposition running 5:23.90 to win her 1500m and 2:47.71 to win her 800m. Isabelle also took a change from distance to run 1:12.22 to win a 400m sprint.
Of our sprinter, Scarlett won her 200m sprint with a 30.40 and improved pace from Sophie to place a close second in her 100m.
A special mention goes out to the competitors that entered extra events on the day that were left vacant by students who did not attend. A very well done to Lily and Taylor who entered Javelin at the last minute an won their events in very difficult weather conditions.
Overall Gisborne Secondary College place 6th out of 10 for the day.
On Wednesday 9th October, a team of 20 athletes from Gisborne Secondary College will represent Western Ranges Division at the Western Metropolitan Region Athletics at Moonee Valley.
Intermediate basketball Mon 19th August
Suzan Lee and I took the intermediate boys and girls basketball teams to Cobblebank Stadium. The boys were fortunate enough to play 4 pool games, winning 3 however losing to the eventual champions Sunbury, results were:
Game 1 Vs Heathdale W 31-18
Game 2 Vs Sunbury Downs W 40-25
Game 3 Vs Staughton W 21-20

A great effort by the boys, given we only had 3 Year 10 students. A very enjoyable experience with some dedicated, skills and hard-working group. Amazing sportsmanship and respect were exhibited in representing Gisborne.

Volleyball
A group of 13 year eight boys and girls attended Cobblebank stadium for the Western Ranges volleyball competition. The boys ended up with two wins and two losses, with improved game play and skills as the day unfolded. The girls did not win a match coming up against some strong competition but like the boys they improved throughout the day getting very close to winning their last match.
Big thank you to Brigid McClusky for coaching the girls team.

Missing Sports Uniforms
Gisborne Secondary College invested a significant amount of financial resources into purchasing upto date Sports Uniforms for Australian Rules Football, Soccer, Volleyball and Netball. These uniforms are leant to the students to wear form the competition day and are to be returned at the end of the day.
Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of our coaches, some of the uniforms have managed to be taken home and not returned. Our uniforms are easily identified as Blue with Red details, GSC logo and GSC and Gisborne Secondary College printed on them. This is a shout out to all of our parents and students to have a look through bags and the corners of bedrooms for any tops or dress’ that have not yet been returned to the school. With our current supplies, we may not be able to uniform all of our teams that play at once in some sports, particularly Australian Rules Football and Netball.
