Principals Update

- Sarah Rose, Principal

I've no doubt students and families are looking forward to switching off after the last day of term tomorrow after what has been a very busy term of schooling.  For our Year 12s, we're nearing the final couple of weeks of classes and study before the commencement of exams, and I encourage students to utilise the practice exam opportunities that the Senior School arranges for them.  Upon return to school next term, our Year 11 and 10 students will start to prepare for semester exams scheduled in late November but not before our Year 10s deliver their Marketplace Day stalls and activities towards the end of October - this is always such a fun filled day for the whole school.

In student excellence news, I wish to congratulate the following students:

  • Science Olympiad Competition – Congratulations to Jack, Charlie, Isobel and Alex for each gaining a Distinction Award, Breanna for gaining a Credit award, and Skye for your Participation Award.
  • Junior Science Olympiad training squad – Congratulations to Alex and Isobel for being invited to join this national training squad.

It's been wonderful to see so many families at school today engaging in the Parent/Teacher Interviews which play such an important role in building and maintaining positive relationships between school and home.  Whilst at school you may have noticed the progress being made on the new Admin/Wellbeing building which is scheduled for handover to the school later in term 4, as well as the garden beautification works outside I-Block that have been the focus of project work by our VCE-VM students this term.  With the rainfall and slightly warmer days we're experiencing I'm sure this garden will quickly flourish.

As this edition showcases, there's so many rich and diverse learning experiences afforded to our students across the various faculties.  I hope you enjoy reading about them all and enjoying the examples of some amazing student work being produced across various year levels.

Finally, a reminder that the parent/caregiver/guardian opinion survey closes tomorrow. Thank you so much to those families who have already completed this survey. Please see information regarding the survey (this has been sent out previously) at the bottom of this page that contains the link, pin number and additional information about completing the survey.

Wishing all in our school community a safe and happy term break.

Kind Regards,

Sarah Rose

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Gisborne Secondary College is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation. Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online until Friday 20 September 2024.  All families are invited to participate in the survey. Please note, only one survey per household should be completed. The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.

Survey results will be communicated to parents / caregivers / guardians through our annual reporting process.
