Visual Art

The term has been busy in the art rooms. Students have been working diligently to explore a range of concepts in the Junior School. In Visual Language 7A, 7G, 7E and 7C students have been exploring and developing painting skills, while investigating the development of tints and shades before transferring these skills into the planning and development of a monochromatic artwork for their folios. They have also been completing various visual journal tasks throughout the term and will have an artist research project to complete.

Year 8 Visual Art students have been exploring portraiture, they have explored targeted drawing activities having them practice replicating eyes, noses and mouths before unpacking the proportions of the face, before transferring these skills to exploring and experimenting with a range of media. Students are in the process of developing a final portrait artwork.

Year 9 Visual Art students have been exploring the genre of still life and have been experimenting with line and mark making to capture arrangements of different objects through observational drawing. They have been introduced to a variety of drawing materials, ink, oil pastels and charcoal experimenting with techniques. They have documented and reflected on their artworks in their visual diaries throughout the process.

In Ceramics students have been developing their skills in the planning and development of working with clay. They started exploring hand-building techniques using the pinch pot method and have made a range of projects from a pinch pot monster to a character head, made a gift pot. They have decorated their creations with a range of underglaze techniques. They have just completed the coil pot method projects. They should be very proud of the work coming out of the Year 9 Ceramic classes, they are of an expectational standard.

In Year 10 Art students have created a self-portrait project using mixed media while a self-portrait can be dauting they all completed the task well. They are currently completing a homage task, where they are looking at the way Fred Williams and Jeffery Smart applied their materials, techniques and process and are recreating some of their artworks before applying these in future paintings.

The Art Making and Exhibiting students in Year 11 and Year 12 had a trip to the Bendigo Art Gallery in week 5 where they spent the day exploring the galleries art collection. Students completed a range of activities to assist them in the current unit of studies. Students listened attentively to the gallery educator, and I was proud to be their teacher. They displayed the schools values while conducting themselves out in public. They students all reported back that they had a lovely day and were keen to attend more gallery excursions I would like to extend my thanks to Ms Prue Jones and Ms Sarah Buerckner for attending the excursion with me.

Our Art Making and Exhibiting Year 12’s have completed their artworks and now we switch gears to prepare for the 2024 Exam. They have worked consistently all year, congratulations and best wishes for what comes next.
