Neurodivergent children may experience tantrums or meltdowns when they become overwhelmed by sensory input, changes in routine, communication challenges, or strong emotions. During a meltdown, the child is often not being intentionally defiant; rather, they may be struggling to regulate their feelings and process what is happening around them. Calm support, reduced stimulation, and patience can help the child feel safe and gradually regain control.
