Educational Achievement

Reading
We would like to sincerely thank all parents and carers who attended our recent parent-teacher interviews. It was fantastic to see such strong engagement and partnership between home and school, as these conversations play an important role in supporting each child’s learning and wellbeing. If you were unable to attend or missed out on booking a time, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s classroom teacher via email or phone the school office to arrange an alternative time to meet and discuss your child's progress.
As we head into the holidays, we encourage all students to continue reading regularly. Reading can take many forms. Books, magazines, comics, recipes, instructions, or even signs and menus when out and about are all reading material. Keeping up with reading helps maintain and build important skills such as vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency, while also fostering imagination and a love of learning. Even 10–15 minutes a day can make a big difference, so we encourage families to make reading a relaxed and enjoyable part of the holiday routine.
Instrumental Music
Our instrumental music students are developing their confidence and skills in instrumental music lessons this term. Please assist your young musician to continue to grow through encouraging and assisting them in setting up a practice space at home and encouraging regular practice. All instruments should be taken home on the afternoon of their lesson (either Monday or Thursday) so that they can practice during the week. Aim for shorter, but regular practice sessions rather than a single long practice.
The GSPS Music Sub-Committee are hosting the first disco of the year this Friday, 27th March and it is sure to be a hoot! P-2 (5-6pm), Y3-6 (6-7pm).
Classroom Music
Fun Fact: from Bigger Better Brains,
Music gives children repeated practice in turn taking, sharing attention and participating with others. This builds confidence to join in, speak up and enjoy learning with their peers.
Students from GSV enjoyed some fantastic learning with their peers and with other school participants on Friday 13th March at the vocal workshop run by the "7 Sopranos". We worked through lots of fun warmups and exercises as well as the song "What a Wonderful World". Some of these students performed during the first Act of the Opera in the Gardens concert at the Botanic Gardens on Saturday night.
I will be on leave for the last 2 weeks of this term and Mrs Lutton has kindly offered to keep the GSV going with their ANZAC Day song, so it is ready for our school ANZAC Day assembly the first week back from the holidays. The junior choir can have a little break but please keep reading through the words of your songs.
News from the Library
All library books are due back this Friday the 27th of March. Please ensure books are returned on time as students cannot borrow new books while they have books outstanding.
Congratulations to the students that have been selected in our Readers Cup Team. These students will represent GSPS at the readers cup challenge later in the year, more details to follow early next term.
