Lions Youth of the Year – Good Luck!

Good luck to Imogen and Sarah who are representing Mount Alvernia College in the upcoming Zone Lions Youth of the Year competitions. Both students show dedication, charisma and care in everything they do and we know they will represent us with pride! 

Debating Team Presentations

Last week at our International Women’s Day assembly, we presented our 2026 Debating Teams. In my address, I acknowledged the persistence of our debaters in continuously preparing themselves, presenting their speeches and then supporting their ideas against an opponent whose job is to tell them they are wrong. I am blown away with every debate I watch of our students, seeing their poise and confidence to get up and keep on going, despite someone else trying to drag them down. Debating gives them a chance to practice these skills, so when they are faced with hardship in real life, they deal with it logically, respectfully and with resilience.

Emma and Stephanie shared some updates from our debates so far with 6 of the 9 teams recording a win. We are yet to see our Year 12s and 7s debate so will keep you updated!

Term 1 MUN at Mt A

Last Friday, we held our first MUN at Mt A with a wide range of year levels attending and getting involved. It is so great to see our senior students stepping into the role of leaders and role models and allowing our junior students a safe space to learn, and a vision of what they can aim for in the world of MUN. Thank you to Ms Sims and Ms Arenas for supervising this event and for the Queensland UN Youth Australia team for assisting in the running of this event.
