Family Cultural Background, Languages and Harmony Day Survey – Fill in form
As part of our commitment to celebrating the rich cultural diversity within our school community, we invite you to complete this short survey about your family’s cultural background and your child’s sense of belonging at school. Your insights will help us ensure that every student feels seen, valued and included. We are also seeking parent support for our upcoming Harmony Day celebrations and would love to know if you are able to contribute in any way. Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to nurture a welcoming and inclusive community for all.
Kimochis at Home:
We have 2 very special Kimochis that are going to come for a visit on the weekend. Brave bug and Curious Cat. Students have designated weekends where they will bring home a small bug or cat and a book with instructions of what they will need to do. They will take the Kimochi home on a Friday and bring them back on the Monday. Please make sure they are taken care of and don’t get drawn on or eaten by any family pets. If you do not have a printer at home, we are happy to print for you. Thank you.

Week 7 Learning Program: Reader’s Workshop – We Are Readers. Word Study – sounds: g, o, u. Bookmaking – Author Study: How to draw like Nick Bland.
Term 1 Word Study Structure:
During our Word Study learning time, students are introduced to a letter, the sound the letter makes and its Jolly Phonics action. We practice letter formation, SA print style, with an emphasis on letters being formed from top to bottom (please see handout in Jolly Pouch using Handwriting Heroes). We look at 3 letters per week and by the end of Term 1, have covered all 26 letters of the alphabet. As your children learn more sounds, they will begin to sound out and write simple cvc words (consonant-vowel-consonant) eg. sat, pin, hat.

Take Home Folders:
Take Home folders need to come to school every day. Students will need these to take home notes, craft they make during the day, and new sounds will also be placed in this folder from Week 3 onwards.
Jolly Pouch (purple pouch): Please keep the pouch in your child’s take home folder!
Each Friday, your child will receive the next 3 sounds/actions in their Jolly Pouch. It is up to you whether you keep the paper in their pouch or find a safe place at home. We hope these resources are valuable for you to practise what we learn in class. Each Friday afternoon, a video will be posted on Toddle to support your child at home.
Family Photo: We would love a family photo to put on our family wall in the classroom for children to look at when they miss their family during the day. Please either send a hard copy photo in or email one to us and we can print it off.
Pick Up Information:
To assist the children and teachers with end of the day procedures, we would like to know your child’s pick-up details. There is a poster inside the classroom door with pick up options. Please fill this out at your earliest convenience. We are then able to reassure your child at the end of the day. If your plans change on any given day, please ring through to the School Office and they will inform us via the ‘message’ tray of the changes, or tell us in the morning at drop off.
Please note: During teaching hours, we are unable to check emails.
Foundation Welcome Evening: On Friday 13 March our P&F are holding a Foundation Welcome Night as a welcome to our school. Please come along, have some pizza and meet other foundation families. For more information and RSVP details please click on the following link:
