Sports Day

After an extra week of anticipation, Magill Sports Day was finally held on Wednesday, 17th September. The day began with fog and drizzle, but soon the clouds cleared and the sun came out, setting the scene perfectly. Teachers and Year 6 leaders bustled around like busy bees, preparing and setting up for the big day. As students arrived, the schoolyard was soon a sea of red, green, blue, and yellow, buzzing with anticipation for the day ahead. The Year 6 leaders kicked things off with a high-energy Health Hustle, getting everyone warmed up and ready to go. Before the morning activities began, each team proudly performed their chants, showcasing the passion and spirit they have for their houses.
The morning session was divided between our Reception to Year 2 students, who took to the oval and courts, and our Year 3-6 students, who competed on the upper primary oval and in the gym. The Reception - Year 2 program featured a variety of activities designed to challenge and develop fundamental skills of throwing, catching, kicking, jumping, accuracy, and agility. Meanwhile, the Year 3–6 students participated in events including shot put, high jump, hurdles, soccer kick, vortex throw, agility ladder, scooter boards, and a four-way tug of war.
The middle of the day saw buddy classes come together to enjoy activities that encouraged teamwork and leadership. Students worked side by side in Weave the Hoop, River Crossing, and Rob the Nest, before finishing with a crowd favourite, the Water Relay.
In the afternoon, the Reception to Year 2 and Year 3–6 students once again split into their groups for events that really brought out their competitive spirit. Ribbons were awarded to individuals and teams who placed first through to fourth across events of baton relay, long-distance run, and sprints.
The day concluded with an exciting relay featuring Magill’s fastest students from Reception to Year 6, all racing to earn those last-minute points for their teams. Once the cheers settled, the scorers tallied the results and passed them on to Mr Iannunzio for the final announcement. Murray finished the day on top, claiming their first victory since 2020.
The behaviour and sportsmanship displayed by all teams was outstanding, with students truly living up to our school values throughout the day. A heartfelt thank you goes to our dedicated staff for their hard work and to our wonderful Magill community, who never fail to show up and support our students.
