Student Learning

Throughout the course of this year, N8 and F15 have met on a regular basis and completed various buddy activities together. Some of these activities have included: Sports Day practices (many, many, many of these), a few different arts and crafts activities, a science activity and we have had ‘picnic’ lunch gatherings and eaten our lunch together at the new playground. F15 got very excited with the mid-year intake of Receptions as it increased the class numbers, and there were more buddies to share around.
Some of the arts and craft activities we enjoyed the most included: Harmony Day bracelets and posters, we also made paper birds based on an Aboriginal dreamtime story; ‘How the Birds Got Their Colours’, and paper ‘R U OK?’ themed ladybugs, which were super-cute. We’re looking forward to Term 4 and joining our classes together for some Christmas time activities.

As part of our learning in Business and Economics, the Year 6 classes formed small groups and created their own businesses. They were given a $70 loan to begin their business and needed to demonstrate an understanding of consumer choice in order to choose a product or game to create, market and sell in order to make a profit and pay back their loans. Students created a range of food and drink items, made products and raffles or sideshow style games for students to enjoy. Food and drinks included bubble tea, cakes and ice cream. Products included crochet, bracelets and origami. Sideshow games involved hitting targets and shooting goals and testing your luck with a variety of raffles organised throughout the day.
On Monday 22nd of September, after an extremely busy term learning about business, economics, consumer choice and the requirements of creating their own businesses, the Year 6 students put their products, games and advertising skills on show to their clientele of Reception to Year 5 students. What a fantastic day it was showcasing their learning, with all products and games proving to be a hit raising an incredible $3,100. The Year 6 teachers are proud of the efforts put in by their students and the enthusiasm shown throughout the learning sequence and on selling day!
