Junior Secondary School

STAFFING CHANGES
In the Junior Secondary we have appointed a new trial role - HOD Junior Secondary Student Services. Mr Will Johnstone was the successful candidate. This role will be reviewed towards the end of the year. Essentially it is an additional support to the Year levels teams to manage and support student conduct.
As Mr Johnstone has move to this new role, we have a new HOY for Year 7, Mr Haydn Jenkins. Haydn has a wealth of experience working in student engagement and wellbeing space and has previously been a Head of Year at PBC.
PREPARING FOR PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Take the time to sit with your child and discuss their interim report. Celebrate successes and consider where improvements are needed, set some specific, realistic and measurable goals.
It is recommended that your child attend parent interviews with you so support can be discussed and everyone is on the same ‘page’. It can be very useful for the student to ask their own questions and to receive direct feedback from teachers, with you present. Teachers are also hoping to learn more about the student and will welcome information that will help them support everyone in their learning.
YEAR 9 WORK EXPERIENCE
All year 9‘s are invited to organise work experience in Week 10 of Term 2 and Term 4. This is an opportunity to explore a career of interest and for those interested in school-based apprenticeships and traineeships for senior school can be the start of this relationship. Information packs have been distributed to students in their Care Class and initial paperwork (pink pages) can be returned to student services no later than the end of Week 7, Term 2 (Friday 5th June 2026).
These forms need to be signed twice by the employer, once by the student and once by the parent. The school will then make contact with the employer to finalise the placement.
