Feast Day 2026

The Feast of the Cross was celebrated on Friday 11th September, on this day we celebrate the triumphant return of the Holy Cross, which had been placed on Mount Calvary by St. Helena and preserved in Jerusalem, but then fell into the hands of the King of the Persians. The precious relic was recovered and returned to Jerusalem by Emperor Heralius in 629. The Feast of the Cross has been celebrated since the 17th Century and is a day of triumph and celebration where we acknowledge the symbolism of the cross and how it connects us to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (the Holy Trinity). Our school name ‘Holy Cross’ reminds us of the connections we have not only to the trinity but also to the beautiful land and gifts we are surrounded by. 

At Holy Cross, we acknowledged this special day with a reverent liturgy led by our students and gathered to reflect on what the cross means at our school. The door competition (which kept students and staff busy throughout the week!) was a wonderful way to reflect on symbols and links to our faith at Holy Cross as we got creative to represent what belonging to the Holy Cross community means to us. Well done to all classes, teachers and learning support staff for getting on board and making our sense of belonging and community visible! Congratulations to 5/6F for taking out the inaugural prize! 

We continued to celebrate what we love most about our school: belonging, community and connections, in a Tabloid Sports afternoon and community picnic. Our PBL values of ‘Respect’, ‘Resilience’ and ‘Responsibility’ were in action as students and staff worked together to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon. Our Feast Day was certainly a day of ‘triumph’ for our Holy Cross community!

Student Recount

On Friday, the 11th of September, Holy Cross had its annual feast day. We all had so much fun doing all the activities. My highlight of the day was when Mrs. Barlow came around to judge for the door competition, and our class was doing a really funny chicken pose. It was so good to see everyone having fun and supporting each other. 

After recess and liturgy, the activities started. There were 8 activities that were each run by a teacher and a house captain who guided us through each and every activity: Egg and spoon race, sack race, parachute, tunnelball, ball games, skipping, bin footy and finally a sponge relay. They were all super fun, and my favorite was the sponge relay because it was super fun and really brought us together as teams and houses. It made me so happy that everyone was cheering each other on throughout the day!

A huge thank you to all of the staff for organising the activities and making the day so much fun.
