Global Design Challenge

Students from Years 8, 9 and 10 have recently participated in the Global Design Challenge, in partnership with KIOSC at Swinburne University and our international partner school, SRM in India. Working in virtual teams with students from SRM, our students have been challenged to design an eco-house for a sustainable future, exploring innovative approaches to clean energy and sustainable living.
This week, we were delighted to welcome some of our SRM teammates to Melbourne.
They joined us for a day of learning at VSC before heading to KIOSC for an engaging workshop together with other Global Design Challenge schools, which focused on sustainability, clean energy and STEM. Students worked collaboratively to explore a range of sustainable solutions and apply their learning through hands-on activities.
As part of the challenge, students investigated:
Clean energy: Exploring alternatives such as solar, wind and hydrogen to power their eco-houses.
Sustainable water management: Considering ways to use and conserve water more effectively.
Waste management: Investigating ways to reduce single-use plastics and explore alternatives such as bioplastics.
Sustainable transport: Exploring clean energy options for transportation, including hydrogen-powered vehicles.
