Student Leadership Climate Summit

Brimbank Council and CERES invited students from local schools to attend a leadership summit on the health of our environment and the effects of climate change. The all-day summit was held at the St Albans Community Centre. Over the past few weeks, students in the lunchtime Sustainability Club completed an audit that focused on water, waste, energy, and biodiversity. With the audit results, 10 students from years 5 and 6 worked with other schools to discuss their findings and propose action planning and working parties. Groups discussed ideas about increasing recycling options at school, planting more native gardens and even the possibility of chickens!

Students were also taught goal setting and leadership skills, and had opportunities to develop their confidence in public speaking.

We look forward to hearing more about the student’s ideas and proposals in upcoming Middle School assemblies.
