Book Week Looks a Little Different This Year in the Middle School

I have had some Middle School students ask over the last week or so whether Book Week is cancelled this year because our traditional Book Week Dress Up Day is not going ahead. There has been a decision to move away from full dress up days at the Yirramboi campus this year (including Book Week Dress Up Day) but I am very pleased to reassure students and parents that Book Week is definitely happening in the Middle School Library!  

From 22–28 August, we have a week of fun activities planned around this year’s theme, Symphony of Stories. 

One of the highlights will be our Book Week Photobooth, running in the library at lunchtime throughout the week. Students can bring their friends along, choose from a selection of costumes, accessories and props, and take a fun Book Week photo in front of a disco theme backdrop. Students are welcome to bring their own accessories or props from home to the library for the photo. To keep things manageable, these should be items that can be worn over their school uniform for the photo only, rather than full costumes requiring a change of clothes. Photos will be printed as photobooth-style strips and will be available for students to collect from the library the following day – a little Book Week keepsake to take home!  

There will also be plenty of other activities happening throughout the week during lunchtime in the Middle School library, including mask making, badge making, a colouring competition, origami bookmark making, a scavenger hunt, Harry Potter trivia, and our Renaissance Reading challenge. Teachers will also be hosting Book Week Kahoots during Homegroup and a colouring competition. Author and illustrator Judith Rossell will also speak to the whole of Middle School at assembly. 

So, while Book Week might look a little different in Middle School this year, there is certainly no shortage of books, stories, creativity and fun! We look forward to celebrating with our students in the library.
