Interschool Sporting Gala Day
Last Friday, our Year 5 – 6 students headed to various venues for their first interschool sporting Gala Day of the year. After weeks of training on Friday afternoons, they finally had the chance to put their skills into action.
Students competed in rugby league, netball, Oztag, soccer, tennis, and ultimate frisbee, playing multiple games against local schools. They will continue training after the holidays to prepare for two more gala days later this year. A huge thank you to our Year 5 – 6 teachers and teacher aides for their support during Friday training sessions and on the day of the event.
Year 4 Intraschool Gala Day
Last Wednesday, our Year 4 students took part in an intraschool sporting Gala Day, competing within their house teams. Events included touch football, end ball (a netball variation), soccer, dodgeball, and capture the flag.
This day gave students the chance to build teamwork, sportsmanship, and game-specific skills in a fun, competitive environment. This is perfect preparation for their interschool events in Years 5 and 6. Thank you to all specialist teachers and house captains who helped make the day a success.
Southern Schools Surf Competition
Two weeks ago, three of our surfers competed at the Southern Schools Surf Competition at Currumbin Beach, going up against students from Burleigh, Palm Beach, Currumbin, Coolangatta, and Tallebudgera.
Zaylah, Kruz, and Willis were outstanding - each finishing first or second in their heats. Zaylah even recorded one of the highest heat scores in the girls’ division! Next term, we’re aiming to send a larger team to the Palm Beach Classic. Training continues Tuesday mornings before school. If your child is interested in joining our Surfing Academy, contact Mr Marais at cmara11@eq.edu.au.
Queensland All Schools Oztag
Early next term, four of our Oztag teams will travel to the Sunshine Coast for the Queensland All Schools Oztag titles. Students have been training before school and during lunchtimes, and we’re proud of their commitment. Special thanks to Mr King and Mrs Slattery for their coaching support, and to the parents for those early morning drop-offs. We’re looking forward to a great weekend of sport!
South East Queensland Netball Tournament
Next term, Mrs Hutchins will lead two Year 5 - 6 netball teams to the South East Queensland Netball Tournament at Mallawa Drive. These students have been working hard at training sessions before school and during lunchtimes. Thank you to the parents for your support and to Mrs Hutchins for giving her time to coach the teams.
QCup AFL Carnival
Last week, our AFL team competed in the QCup Primary Schools Carnival at Carrara, led by Mr Baker. Despite limited preparation due to a wet oval, the boys showed true Tally spirit, playing hard and doing our school proud. Well done, boys, and thank you Mr Baker!
Titans vs Cowboys Halftime Game
This Sunday, 29 June, our Year 6 rugby league team will play in the halftime game at CBUS Stadium during the Titans vs Cowboys NRL match. It’s an exciting opportunity to represent Tallebudgera SS at a major sporting event. Thank you to Mr Ireland for coaching the boys. If you're free on Sunday, come along and cheer them on!
Sporting Academies Launch
With the oval finally usable again, we’re preparing to launch our Touch Football and Rugby League Academies for Years 4 - 6. These academies offer students specialised coaching to further develop their skills. Thank you to the families who’ve already shown interest. If your child would like to join, contact Mr Marais at cmara11@eq.edu.au.
Athletics Sports Days
We’re excited to hold our Athletics Carnivals early next term now that the oval is drying out!
- Senior Carnival (Years 3 - 6): Wednesday 23 July
- Junior Carnival (Prep - Year 2): Wednesday 30 July
More information will be shared via ClassDojo. Thank you to our groundsmen, Scotty and Bodhi, for their hard work getting the oval back in shape.
