Week 1 Greeting

Welcome back to Term 3! It has been wonderful to see the fresh energy and enthusiasm that everyone has brought back after the two-week holiday break. Although the weather over the holidays was rather average, it certainly sounded like our students made the most of their time away. From family outings and sporting activities to relaxing at home, there were plenty of stories to share. I was especially envious of those lucky enough to escape the Melbourne winter and enjoy some warmer weather! It has been lovely to hear about our students' holiday adventures, and I am excited to see them return refreshed, ready to learn, and eager for another fantastic term together.

第3学期へようこそ！ 2週間の休暇を終え、子どもたちが元気いっぱいの笑顔で学校へ戻ってきました。ホリデー中はあいにくのお天気でしたが、それでも子どもたちは家族とのお出かけやスポーツ、自宅でゆっくり過ごす時間など、それぞれ充実した休暇を過ごしたようです。中にはメルボルンの寒さを離れ、暖かい場所で休暇を楽しんだご家庭もあり、少しうらやましく感じました！子どもたちからたくさんの楽しい思い出を聞くことができ、とても嬉しかったです。リフレッシュした気持ちで新学期を迎え、意欲的に学び、新たな学期を充実したものにしてくれることを楽しみにしています。

Lateness to School

A friendly reminder that students are expected to be in their classrooms no later than 9:00 am each morning. Arriving at school before the music begins gives students valuable time to settle into the day, connect with their friends, organise their belongings, and prepare themselves for learning. Starting the day in a calm and organised way helps students transition smoothly into classroom routines and sets them up for a successful day of learning. Thank you for your continued support in ensuring your child arrives at school on time each day.

毎朝9時までに教室へ入るよう、ご協力をお願いいたします。始業前の音楽が流れている間に登校すると、子どもたちは落ち着いて一日を始める準備ができ、友達と交流したり、荷物を整理したり、学習への心構えを整えたりする時間を持つことができます。このようなゆとりのあるスタートは、教室での活動へスムーズに移行し、一日の学習を充実したものにすることにつながります。お子様が毎日時間どおりに登校できるよう、引き続きご理解とご協力をお願いいたします。

Swimming Lessons

Our annual Swimming and Water Safety Program will take place during Weeks 4 and 5 of this term. This program is an important part of the Victorian Curriculum and provides students with valuable opportunities to develop their swimming skills and water safety knowledge.

If you are available to volunteer and assist our teachers and students during the program, we would greatly appreciate your support. Please let your child's classroom teacher know if you are able to help.

For our younger students, the next few weeks provide a wonderful opportunity to practise some important independence skills at home. Encouraging your child to dress themselves, dry themselves after swimming, tie their shoelaces, and pack their belongings back into their bag will help them feel more confident and make the swimming sessions run smoothly.

Finally, we ask all families to ensure that every item your child brings to swimming—including towels, bathers, goggles, clothing and shoes—is clearly labelled with their name. This helps us return misplaced belongings quickly and keeps the program running efficiently.

毎年恒例の水泳教室を、今学期の第4週・第5週に実施します。このプログラムはビクトリア州カリキュラムの一環として行われ、子どもたちが泳ぐ力や水辺で安全に行動するための知識を身につける大切な機会となります。

プログラム期間中、引率やサポートをお手伝いいただける保護者の方がいらっしゃいましたら、大変ありがたく思います。ご協力いただける場合は、お子様の担任までお知らせください。

特に低学年のお子様にとっては、水泳学習までの数週間をご家庭で身支度の練習をする良い機会としていただければと思います。自分で服を着替えること、体を拭くこと、靴ひもを結ぶこと、使った物をバッグに片付けることなどを練習しておくと、水泳の時間をよりスムーズに過ごすことができます。

また、タオル、水着、ゴーグル、衣類、靴など、水泳に持参するすべての持ち物には必ず記名をお願いいたします。 持ち主が分かることで、落とし物や取り違えがあった際にも速やかに返却することができます。ご協力をよろしくお願いいたします。

Year 3/4 English Lesson

One of the highlights of my week was visiting every classroom across the school and seeing the wonderful learning taking place. I'd particularly like to shine a spotlight on the fantastic English lesson happening in Miss Matthews' Year 3/4 classroom.

Students were explicitly learning about the Latin roots tain, ten and tin, which all relate to the meaning "to hold" or "to have". Miss Matthews introduced the words contain, tenant and continent, and together the class explored how each word connects back to the original Latin meaning. Students then worked with their table partners to create a sentence using one of the vocabulary words, demonstrating their understanding of both its meaning and its correct use in context.

It was fantastic to see the students so engaged in their learning and applying their new knowledge with such confidence and accuracy. They came up with some excellent examples and clearly demonstrated a strong understanding of the concept. Well done, Year 3/4 students, and thank you to Miss Matthews for providing such an engaging and explicit learning experience!

今週は全学年の教室を訪問し、子どもたちの素晴らしい学びの様子を見ることができました。その中でも特にご紹介したいのが、マシューズ先生の3・4年生の英語の授業です。

この日の授業では、**「tain」「ten」「tin」**というラテン語の語根について学んでいました。これらは「持つ」「保つ」という意味を表しています。子どもたちは contain（含む）、tenant（借家人）、continent（大陸） という3つの単語を例に、それぞれがどのように「持つ」「保つ」という意味につながっているのかを考えました。その後、ペアで協力しながら、選んだ単語を使った例文を作成しました。

子どもたちが学んだことを自信を持って正確に活用している姿は本当に素晴らしく、どのペアも工夫を凝らした素敵な例文を作っていました。学習内容をしっかり理解していることが伝わってきました。3・4年生の皆さん、よく頑張りました！また、このような分かりやすく魅力的な授業

を行ってくださったマシューズ先生にも感謝します。

Prep Mathematics Lesson

I also had the opportunity to stop by and observe what our Prep students were learning in their Mathematics lesson. When I visited, they were participating in the daily review, revisiting the key concepts they had been learning about weight. Students confidently recalled important vocabulary and discussed how to use a balance scale to compare the weight of different objects.

Considering it was only their second day back at school after the holidays, I was incredibly impressed by how settled, engaged and focused our Prep students were. They listened carefully, enthusiastically shared their thinking and demonstrated a wonderful readiness to learn. It was a fantastic start to the term and a credit to both our students and teachers. Well done, Preps!

Prepの数学の授業を見学する機会もありました。この時間は毎日の復習活動に取り組んでおり、「重さ」の学習内容を振り返っていました。子どもたちは重要な言葉を自信を持って答え、てんびん（バランススケール）を使って物の重さを比べる方法について話し合っていました。

休み明けまだ2日目とは思えないほど、Prepの子どもたちは落ち着いて学習に取り組み、集中して先生の話を聞いていました。また、自分の考えを意欲的に発表する姿も多く見られ、学ぶ準備がしっかりできていることが伝わってきました。素晴らしい学期のスタートとなり、子どもたちと先生方の努力を大変誇らしく思います。Prepの皆さん、本当によく頑張りました！
