5B Newsletter

Welcome to our 5B newsletter. We hope you enjoy the excellent learning done in our class! 

In Year 5 we are learning how to write TEEL paragraphs for English, by writing a persuasive text about “Matilda” by Roald Dahl. Afterwards, we will use our presenting skills to share our speech. TEEL paragraphs are a way to help us write clear and organized paragraphs. T for topic sentence, E for evidence, the second E for explain, and the L for linking sentence. We practice TEEL in writing to share our opinions. It helps our writing stay structured, makes our ideas easy to understand, and builds our confidence as writers.

In Maths this term we have been learning about transformations. A transformation is when a shape rotates, reflects, or translates. Also known as (turn, mirror or slide). In our first maths assessment we not only did transformations. We also did some mapping and coordinates. We have enjoyed playing battleships in Maths to learn coordinates in a fun way. 

This term for science we have learned all about planets and space. In 5B we enjoyed learning about NASA and the ISS as well as their roles in exploring space, we researched how each planet is different and discovered interesting facts. We also learnt about their sizes, temperatures and distances from the Sun. It has been existing to learn more about the universe, and we are looking forward to discovering even more about the solar system and its mysteries!

In HASS this term we have been learning about needs and wants. We have identified needs and wants. We have also been researching about products and testing if they are good quality and a good price for the type of product or if it is a scam. We have been doing this by researching to find more information, comparing prices, and looking at reviews. Year 5 have also been figuring out improvements for our community like adding more bike racks and having a local garden bed.
