Principal's Message

Term 1 Week 10 2 April 2026
From the Principal
Hi Everyone,
Well, that's it, the first term of the year is over and hasn't it been wonderful! This week has been big and full of celebrations. None more so than Harmony Day today. It has been the perfect way to end a term.
Thank you so much to our wonderful P&C who organised and oversaw the very successful and fantastic P&C International Breakfast this morning. I'm afraid my ability to show self-control was not where it needed to be when I was surrounded by such delicious food. Thank you to every volunteer who made our international breakfast so very special. We have such a unique school here at Ironside State School with 49 countries represented and it is very special to get to celebrate our multiculturalism.
Harmony day continued with our Harmony Day assembly. Congratulations to all those children who received Harmony Day Awards. It would have been incredibly difficult to choose one, and only one, child from each class, when there are so many shining examples of children that create harmony wherever they go - long may this continue. The world needs peace, love and kindness now perhaps more than ever before.
Congratulations and thank you to the Year 1 and 2 Choir who sang a very moving performance of Everyone Belongs. Thank you to them and Mrs Marianne Huxley.
Thank you to all parents and caregivers who sent in food to be shared at the international lunch, it wasn't necessary but was absolutely loved. Thank you all for your generosity and kindness.
Our International Talent Show was very special, and I thank all of our performers who were brave and shared a little bit of their culture with our school; we loved it! It was also very special when we all sang, I am Australian together at the assembly in the morning, showing off all of our talent.
As a school we finished off today by loving where we live and ensuring rubbish was picked up inside and outside of the classrooms, as well as around bag racks. The value of working together to do a job to a high standard cannot be understated.
We started our week with our Whole School Star Assembly. I would like to congratulate all the children who received a Star Award. It is always very moving to hear why they are such a worthy recipient.
The Chamber Strings were outstanding as our entertainment on assembly. I was also moved to tears when they played the classic song Jupiter before assembly had even begun. Congratulations and thank you to them and Mrs Trudy Weekes, our outstanding strings teacher. I recorded their assembly performance, and you can see it here at the end of this video.
Speaking of bands, we had Mr James Kukulies join forces with the instrumental music teachers from Toowong State School and Indooroopilly State School to bring together a whole lot of very keen instrumental music students this week. The outcome of this collaboration was simply amazing! Thank you Mr Kukulies and well done to the Band!
The Year 1 & 2 Swimming Carnival was excellent, and no one let the rain dampen their spirits. The children were just brimming with excitement. Thank you to Mr Bushnell and Mr Reardon for organising this wonderful day. Yet again, our incredible Sports Captains, did an amazing job of helping and supporting all of our year 1 and 2 children to participate in the carnival. Thank you to all of those parents who came along and added to the spirit too! I took a few photos which are in the gallery.
Congratulations to our Chess Team who represented Ironside State School at the Brisbane Zone Interschool Chess Competition. Rest assured all the members of the team made us proud and some of them even won! Top work to all these kids and their amazing chess teachers Mr. Tim Shepherd and Mr Neil Malcolm.
Mrs Griffin was in her element bringing us all together for cracking good time at the Prep to Year 3 Easter bonnet Parade. Thank you so much to all the children who got right into the spirit of creating their own special Easter Bonnet. Thank you also to our wonderful parents and caregivers and teachers who got into the spirit of this fun event. Cr Penny Wolff popped in for the fun too and was very impressed!
The P&C AGM did not get as far as we would have liked, as we are waiting for some documentation to be completed and sent out to the community before we can elect a new executive. At the moment, it seems like we don't have anyone prepared to be our P&C President, our P&C Secretary and our P&C Treasurer. PLEASE, we need people to think carefully and consider nominating for these roles. P&C's are the backbone of schools.
Speaking of parents, caregivers and volunteering, I would like to give SHOUT-OUTS to every volunteer we've had in our school this term. Our school and world are a better place because of volunteers. Below, is a list of names of volunteers that have done various things, but we know there is a lot more of you out there, and we are so grateful!
On that note I'm going to sign off for the term and say a massive thank you to everyone. Thank you to our wonderful staff who are working so hard to do everything they can to give our children the best education. Thank you also must go to our children and their families who have supported them to be the best they can be.
I genuinely hope you have a truly wonderful holiday. I hope you get to do the things you need to do, relax, have fun and be with your people.
I'm really looking forward to a break myself and returning ready for Term 2.
