Hello from 1R

We have settled back into Term 2 very smoothly, revisiting and strengthening our classroom expectations and routines. It has been wonderful to see students return ready to learn and engage.

This term, we have begun our Inquiry unit, Past and Present, where students are exploring how life has changed over time. We have already looked at what Langwarrin Primary School was like in the past compared to today. We are very excited for our upcoming excursion to Coal Creek in Week 4, where students will experience and compare life in the “olden days” to now.

At the end of last term, Year 1 students had a fantastic time participating in swimming lessons. Students particularly enjoyed diving underwater and collecting sinkable toys. We also had a wonderful time celebrating at our Easter Bonnet Parade, with so many creative and colourful designs on to see.

Each day begins with our Ready to Learn Circle and Acknowledgment of Country. Students enjoy participating in the actions and value this special time together, which helps build connections, set a positive tone for the day, and support emotional regulation before learning begins.

In Literacy, we have started exploring narratives. We have enjoyed reading The Speedy Sloth and The Gruffalo, focusing on characters and how to describe them. Students have been practising their drawing skills and showing great resilience in their work.

In Mathematics, we are learning about partitioning, breaking numbers into smaller parts to help solve problems and deepen understanding. We played with Unifix blocks to show different ways we can make numbers to 10 and 20.

We have also started Show and Tell this term, with this week’s focus on sharing a favourite toy. Students have enjoyed presenting to their peers, and even Miss Rowlands shared her favourite toy with the class.

It’s shaping up to be a busy and exciting term filled with learning, growth, and the development of new friendships!
