During Term 2, Year 1 students will develop their fundamental movement skills with a focus onball bounce and catching. Through a variety of games, movement stations, and small challenges, students will practise controlling a ball using their hands and improving their ability to track andcatch objects. They will explore how to move their body effectively in space while maintainingcontrol of equipment. Students will begin to apply simple movement strategies, such aspositioning themselves to receive a ball, and will reflect on how practice helps improve their skills. There will also be a focus on cooperation, sharing equipment, and following rules to support safeand inclusive participation, building on their growing confidence in physical activity.

YEAR 2

During Term 2, Year 2 students will refine and apply fundamental movement skills with a focus onpunting and catching, with an emphasis on developing consistency and confidence whencatching. Through engaging games and modified activities, students will practise striking a ballwith their foot and receiving objects while stationary and on the move. They will developcoordination, timing, and control, while beginning to apply simple strategies such as moving intospace and anticipating the ball’s path. Students will also use feedback to improve their performance and refl ect on their progress. A strong focus will be placed on teamwork, fair play, and safe participation, helping students understand how movement contributes to an active and healthy lifestyle.

YEAR 3

During Term 2, Year 3 students will be introduced to Invasion/Territory Games, where they will begin to develop an understanding of basic game concepts such as attacking, defending, and maintaining possession. Students will practise and refi ne fundamental movement skills such as passing, catching, and moving into space while applying simple strategies in modifi ed game situations. They will learn how to work collaboratively in teams, follow rules, and demonstrate fair play. As part of the term, students will participate in the Year 3–4 Athletics Carnival in Week 7, where they will apply their movement skills in a different context. Learning at this level supports students to combine skills and begin applying movement strategies in game-like situations, as outlined in the Victorian Curriculum progression .

YEAR 4

During Term 2, Year 4 students will further develop their understanding of Invasion/Territory Games by refi ning skills and applying basic game strategies such as creating space, defending opponents, and making effective decisions during play. Students will build on their ability to combine movement skills in more complex ways and begin to understand how tactics can infl uence game outcomes. They will also take on different roles within games, demonstrating teamwork, communication, and fair play. In Week 2, students will participate in an Intensive Swim Program, developing water safety skills and confi dence in aquatic environments. Later in the term, students will compete in the Year 3–4 Athletics Carnival in Week 7. Learning at this level focuses on refi ning skills and applying strategies across different contexts while promoting safe and active participation .

YEAR 5

During Term 2, Year 5 students will build on their prior learning in Invasion/Territory Games by applying more advanced movement strategies and teamwork concepts. Students will refi ne skills such as passing, receiving, and moving strategically to create scoring opportunities while maintaining possession under pressure. They will begin to analyse gameplay, make decisions based on positioning and opposition, and apply tactics such as spacing and support play. Students will also develop communication and leadership skills while working collaboratively in team environments. In Week 8, students will participate in the Year 5–6 Athletics Carnival, providing an opportunity to demonstrate their athletic skills and teamwork. Learning at this level refl ects the curriculum focus on transferring and applying movement strategies across a range of situations .

YEAR 6

During Term 2, Year 6 students will further extend their skills and understanding of Invasion/Territory Games by applying complex strategies and tactical awareness in competitive and cooperative game situations. Students will refi ne their ability to read the game, make quick decisions, and adapt strategies such as creating space, defending effectively, and transitioning between attack and defence. They will analyse their own and others’ performance, provide feedback, and take on leadership roles within teams. There will be a strong focus on communication, inclusion, and fair play to support positive team dynamics. In Week 8, students will participate in the Year 5–6 Athletics Carnival, applying their movement skills in a competitive setting. At this level, students demonstrate the ability to transfer, adapt, and evaluate movement strategies across a range of contexts, supporting confi dent and competent participation in physical activity .
