Year 8 Drama excursion

Our Year 8 Drama students enjoyed a trip to QPAC’s Cremorne Theatre last week to see “Dakota of the White Flats,” an adaptation of the novel by award-winning author Philip Ridley.

This was a valuable experience for our Year 8 Drama students, who are currently devising collage drama performances. Dakota of the White Flats was a dynamic production that incorporated dramatic conventions such as music, song, physical theatre, dance, monologue, and characterisation, supported by creative set design and striking sound and lighting effects. This exposure is essential in supporting students to develop performances that demonstrate meaning, purpose, and an effective application of dramatic conventions.

Thank you to Mrs Conway and Mrs Coyne for initiating this excursion for our Year 8 students to experience a live theatre production.

Student feedback

We asked students to provide their thoughts on the excursion.

"Dakota and the White flats changed my perspective on collage drama, jumping from moment to moment faster than I expected. It's intense, thrilling, and delivered a plot twist, so unexpectedly it hit the audience at once." - Tarneem

"The trip on Friday to watch Dakota of the White Flats was really fun as the actors used drama techniques such as physical theatre, strong expression and clever staging to enhance the experience. Seeing a play live helped me know how to make a good script and a great production. Watching the performers transform into various characters was a cool experience." - Maddie

"I enjoyed the performance and how exciting it as there were lots of different things going on at different times which made the performance very interesting to watch. It was a thrilling performance to watch as there were lots of things going on." - Giuliana
