YEAR 11
Leading The Way

Head of Year 11
Last week during Community PG, the 2027 Student Leadership Application Packages were released to Year 11 students. This is an exciting opportunity for students to take the next step in their leadership journey and consider how they can contribute to the College community in their final year of schooling.
Applications are due Friday of Week 2, Term 3. Students are required to print their completed application and submit it in person to Ms Borzi by the due date. Students considering applying are encouraged to begin working on their applications early and seek support if they have any questions throughout the process.
At our Year 11 Leadership Day earlier this term, we introduced the idea that Year 11 is A Marathon in the Making - a year of training and preparation for the Year 12 marathon ahead. As we approach the halfway point of the year, this is a timely opportunity for students to pause, reflect, and consider whether their current habits and routines are helping them build the resilience and consistency needed for the journey ahead.
If a student requires support, I encourage them to speak with their Pastoral Mentor, a Guidance Counsellor, or a member of the College staff. No one completes a marathon alone; support is always available along the way.
This week, students will be provided with information about the Aspire to Teach Program that will run during Semester 2 sport for those who are interested in a career in Education. Catholic Education Cairns has partnered with James Cook University to create the Aspire to Teach Program, which encourages senior students to consider a career in teaching. The program forms part of Catholic Education Cairns' commitment to helping address the national teacher shortage at a local level.
Students who are interested have been invited to register their interest with Mr Cahill by Friday, 19 June.

If you ride an e-bike, e-scooter, e-skateboard or e-unicycle, important new Queensland laws come into effect from 1 July 2026.
Key changes include:
✅ New speed limits on footpaths and when passing pedestrians
✅ Increased penalties for unsafe riding
✅ Police powers to seize illegal devices used in public places
✅ Stricter requirements for legal e-bikes and personal mobility devices
✅ Continued focus on helmet use, mobile phone restrictions and drink-riding laws
These changes are designed to improve safety for riders, pedestrians and all road users. Parents and students are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the new rules before the school holidays.

State of Origin Shirt Day is being held to celebrate State of Origin and raise money for the Cancer Council. Staff and students are invited to take part, and everyone is encouraged to get involved.
Those participating are required to bring a gold coin donation, which will be collected by Pastoral Mentors during Pastoral Group (in plastic envelopes in roll folders).
So grab a coin and:
Students who do not meet these expectations will be required to change into their correct school uniform for the day: this may mean students are sent home to change.
