On 30 July, five Year 9/10 basketball teams from Aberfoyle Park High School competed at the basketball carnival held at Wayville Basketball Stadium. The students played outstanding basketball, clearly demonstrating their improved skills and commitment to working together as a team.

It was impressive to see the students organising themselves, encouraging their teammates, and making quick tactical decisions throughout each match. Their enthusiasm and sportsmanship were evident across all games, and their teamwork and communication improved as the day went on.

All teams represented the school with great pride and a positive attitude. Congratulations to everyone involved, not only for their performance on the court, but also for upholding the values of Aberfoyle Park High School.

Year 11 Outdoor Education Camp at Kuitpo Forest

In Week 7, 23 Year 11 Outdoor Education students travelled to Kuitpo Forest for a three-day camp filled with hiking, navigation and plenty of challenges.

The camp began on Monday morning in beautiful weather, with students completing a short walk through Kyeema Conservation Park before setting up camp. That afternoon, they continued along the Heysen Trail to Woodcutters Lodge.

Tuesday brought the biggest challenge of the camp, the 12 km Tinjella Loop. With steep hills and difficult sections along the trail, students demonstrated excellent teamwork as they navigated the route, supported one another and worked together to meet the challenge. Rain arrived later in the afternoon, providing everyone with a well-earned opportunity to rest. One of the highlights of the camp came that evening with a 4 km night walk through the forest.

On the final morning, students took on the Onkeeta Trail in light rain before packing up camp and returning to school.

The camp formed an important part of the students’ Stage 1 SACE Outdoor Education learning, particularly their Experiences in Natural Environments work. These experiences give students the opportunity to apply skills such as navigation, risk management, teamwork, decision making and leadership in a real outdoor setting.

Students also develop a deeper understanding of natural environments, their responsibilities when travelling through them, and the ways outdoor experiences can build resilience, confidence and cooperation.

Overall, it was a fantastic three days, with students showing excellent teamwork, resilience and navigation skills throughout the camp. A big thank you also goes to Ms Lisa Davis, who attended as the supporting teacher and provided valuable support to students across the three days.
