Grade 3/4/5/6

Last week Grades 3-6 students represented St. Mary’s at District Tennis and Cricket. It was fantastic to see students demonstrate teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship. 

In Mathematics, we have begun a new unit focusing on Multiplication and Multiplicative Thinking. A key part of our learning has been exploring the many different ways we can approach and solve the same problem. Students have been encouraged to consider which strategy they could use, explain how their strategy works and compare their thinking with others. We know there is often more than one way to solve a problem, and that being able to explain and justify our mathematical thinking is just as important as finding the answer.

We have also reached the end of our class novel, Ramose and the Tomb Robbers. This engaging historical adventure transported us to Ancient Egypt, following Ramose as he faced danger and mystery surrounding the tombs and treasures of the pharaohs. Along the way, we developed our comprehension skills, explored characters and their motivations, made inferences and discussed how authors build suspense and keep readers engaged.

Term 3 has certainly been a big one, filled with learning, challenges and new experiences. Mrs Cotter and Blythe are very proud of the effort, enthusiasm and resilience students have shown throughout the term. We wish all our families a safe, happy and peaceful break.
