Religious Education – St Francis of Assisi

This year marks the 800th anniversary of the death of St Francis of Assisi. 

To commemorate this important anniversary, a special Jubilee Year dedicated to St Francis is being celebrated from 10 January 2026 to 10 January 2027.

As part of our “Called to be Saints” unit in 3/4, we have been learning about the life of St Francis and the choices he made to follow Jesus. Students explored how Francis gave up his wealthy and comfortable life to live simply and serve others. We also discovered his deep love and care for creation and animals, as well as his commitment to peace and reconciliation.

St Francis reminds us that being a saint is not about being perfect, but about choosing to follow Jesus and making a difference in the world around us. We have reflected on how we, too, can follow his example by caring for creation, choosing peace and showing love and kindness to others.

Students have also created wonderful artworks of St Francis, incorporating symbols that represent important parts of his life and his message.
