Chelt.Sec Alumni

We enjoy welcoming past students back to the College to share their stories since graduating, assist them with their further studies and connect with the College community.  Recently we welcomed back and were able to assist a past student, Alyssa who completed Year 12 2018, with the location for her university graduate short film. The following is a note of thanks from Alyssa.

On the 12th of March I had the honour and privilege of being able to return to my old high school stomping ground to shoot my graduate short film for uni.

The film Apart, We Grow is based on my time at Chelt, where I learnt so much about myself. I learnt that some friends aren’t meant to last forever, that they’re meant to support you and serve you for a certain time only, which is key to the story of my film. Apart, We Grow is a coming of age drama-comedy about best friends Gabby and Willow, who grow up as they grow apart. Shooting this at Chelt was super important to me; I have so many memories within those school halls, and it was a blast to relive them with my cast, crew and the wonderful, current Cheltenham Sec students, who helped out as extras.

High school is such a formative time in our lives where we change so dramatically in such a short span of time, and I wanted to capture the high stakes, high drama environment, full of all the petty little squabbles and silliness. It’s pretty hilarious to look back on what mattered to me in high school, but I remember how serious it all felt in the moment.

Thank you so much to Martin Rice, Laura Knox and Karl Russell for letting us come and shoot at your wonderful school and to the wonderful students that helped bring our world to life.
