From the Senior Sports Master

As Mr Couani mentioned in his section, due to the ongoing restrictions in place, please follow the COVID-19 protocols below on our return to Winter Sport at Oxford Falls:

NO SPECTATORS PERMITTED

  • Individuals should not attend sport if unwell. If individuals have flu like symptoms, they should be tested for COVID-19 and should not return to sport until a negative result is confirmed and they are symptom free. If a positive result is received or they have had contact with a known case of COVID-19 they should follow all protocols and isolation advice as provided by NSW Health.
  • All players and staff must be listed and contact details be made available.
  • No spectators permitted at any ISA/IPSHA venue, drop off zones will be clearly marked inside the car park.
  • SPX car park will be a NO PARK ZONE.
  • No canteen or afternoon tea provided (students are to bring their own food)
  • All players to bring their own labelled water bottles. Water breaks will be scheduled by the referee.
  • The change rooms will remain closed, students should arrive ready to play. Toilets will be available, but players should refrain from changing in the toilets.
  • Players sanitise hands on arrival and upon leaving the campus. Hand sanitiser provided and available for use at the venue.
  • Hand shaking is not permitted between players.
  • Antibacterial wipes available for wiping of benches, soapy water available to clean equipment.
  • Players and Coaches to leave at the earliest possibility at the conclusion of the match.

The College will continue to review and amend these protocols as we receive directions from the NSW Government and the Independent Sporting Association (ISA).

Below please find the St Pius X College Risk Warning Notification and ISA Code of Conduct which all students and parents should familiarise themselves with prior to the start of the Winter Season.

Athletics

Athletics Season 2020 kicks off next week. Like 2020 as a year, the Athletics Season will look a little different to previous. Winter sports have been pushed back and will run up to and through the Athletics Season. With this in mind, we have decided to offer 3 training sessions per week for 6 weeks (excluding Monday 31 Aug which is St Pius X Day holiday for us). This should give all athletes the opportunity to train around their other commitments. With no school carnival taking place this year, these training sessions will be crucial in selecting our squad for the ISA Carnival on Tuesday 8 September at SOPAC, Homebush.

Training will take place on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons at Rotary War Memorial Athletics Track: Mowbray Rd West, Lane Cove West from 4.00 pm - 5.00 pm. Buses will transport students to and from Chatswood after school with a 5.00 pm pick-up option at the venue. Students should return to Chatswood by around 5.20 pm.

Training Dates

Monday: 27/7, 3/8, 10/8, 17/8, 24/8

Wednesday: 29/7, 5/8, 12/8, 19/8, 26/8, 2/9

Thursday: 30/7, 6/8, 13/8, 20/8, 27/8, 3/9

Debating

The 2020 Debating season (Take 2) commenced with training in Week 8 of Term 1 and with our Senior Debaters preparing a training video for the CSDA Community to support the online training of adjudicators for the wider Sydney region.

Our reduced 4 rounds are as follows:

STOP PRESS!  Please note the change to Week 1 information below.  Students will now remain at Pius on Friday afternoon instead of travelling to Woolwich Sisters and the debates will be held via Zoom.   Year 11 and 12 students can now remain to watch the debates.

Rd 1 24.7.20  Woolwich v St Pius.   This will be a Zoom Debate, so students will remain at St Pius this Friday afternoon.   Students can be collected from Pius from  around 7.15 pm - 7.45 pm as we are trying to commence the night earlier.  Your son will telephone you before he goes into his hour prep to advise you of his projected end time and he will call you once he is ready to be collected. Our Year 7 coach, Ms Leigha Zervakos, will be your contact on the night as other coaches may still be adjudicating debates. Your son will know to stay with Ms Zervakos until you collect him.

In order to reduce the exposure of students and staff only those debating on the night will participate in the event.  There can be no audience in any of the debate rooms.  This includes parents and other students.  Parents will need to remain in their vehicles once they arrive on site and will be contacted by phone once their son has concluded his debate. Your son will remain with SPX staff until you collect him from the location that we decide (in our phone call) on the night.

Students will be drilled on Covid-Safe actions.  SPX will provide masks (if your son chooses to wear one) and hand sanitiser for all students.  We will use our own whiteboard markers and erasers and we will clean our desks when we enter the Prep rooms.

I also attach the note which was given to the debating students yesterday.  Would you please remind your son that the completed note needs to be returned to me by Thursday this week at the latest.
