Magis report

Congratulations to our three Creative Edge (Opti-MINDS) Challenge teams whose performances were filmed last Friday. Because of the large number of entries and COVID restrictions results will not be circulated until September 21.  All three groups were very impressive, and students saw themselves in action at a film lunch on Wednesday. There is also pictorial record of their performances which is attached with this report.

The House Academic Challenge series concluded with the Years 7 to 10 sections of Language Literature taking place. St Louis House won Year 7, Koolyangarra Years 8 and 10,  and Loreto Year 9.  Individual winners were Marco Zammuto in Year 7, Gemma Bailey in Year 8, and  Daniel Doran in Year 9 whilst Sophie Chew and Jorja Knowles tied for first place in Year 10.  Koolyangarra were overall winners for Years 7 to 12 Language-Literature ahead of Loreto and a resurgent Loyola.  The House Academic Shield which honours the winning house in the series of five academic challenges held will be presented at assembly this week, along with the gold medals for the top performers at each year level. Silver and bronze medals and merit certificates will then be presented at House Assemblies. The new Academic House Challenge series has been an enormous success  with large numbers at each year group, with Years 12 and 11 setting a wonderful example of house spirit with the largest teams of competitors of any year group.  The Language-Literature Results Summary is attached with this report, and next week full final results for the entire program will be circulated.

An outstanding  group of ten Year 7 students will participate in Curtin University’s Global Goals Challenge at Servite College from Tuesday to Thursday this week. Details were in last week’s newsletter and a report will be available next week.

The John XXIII Chess Championships begin this week, and fixtures will be circulated on Monday. Like the Magis Public Speaking and Creative Writing Championship, Chess is a House competition. Players have two days to complete a round, and the competition for most year groups will conclude by the end of this term. Good luck to all players.
