Year 9 Career Insights - Online Morrisby Profiling is well underway

Students were introduced to the program in a Careers presentation on Wednesday 16 June.

This program enables students to undertake an online Morrisby Profiling quiz and have a one on one interview with a Morrisby Careers Practitioner to unpack their report.

The profile provided by the program not only measures strengths and aptitude, it assesses values and personality traits. It then uses these to match students up to potential career pathways.

Students need to make a start on this program at home as it requires time to complete, they will also be given time and support on Wednesday 23 June in classes to complete this task.

Students and parents can access the instructions for this program and the individual school code for 2021 in the resources section of their Humanities class for 9A & 9B and for 10G in their resources section for English. In addition the all relevant documentation; fact sheets, required permissions and instructions are available on Compass – School Documentation – Careers resources – Year 9 Insights.

In Term 3 interviews begin in week 1. Only those students who have completed the quiz will be interviewed.

This is a comprehensive and informative program that is being provided by the department for all Year 9 students. (It is an expensive program so why not take advantage)

Parents must log on to Compass and provide permission for students to be part of the interview process.

Senior School program / Subject Selection for 2022

Term 3 will mark the beginning of the program/subject selection process for 2022.

As a school we want to ensure that every student will be able to achieve success. The development of the most appropriate pathway for every student requires research, resources, conversations and time. All key stakeholders need to be involved; the student, staff and parents.

We would ask that the whole school community be aware of the key steps in this planning to ensure that the best decisions are made for each of our students.

The planning process will include the following steps:

Year 10 – Individual pathway discussions with Careers – Weeks 1 - 4 of Term 3

Each Year 10 student will be interviewed to discuss pathway options and develop a Career Action plan. This plan will be available online for parents, using the student’s individual access code on My Career Voyage

Year 10 and 11 Subject information sessions – Weeks 2 - 4

Students will be attending program and subject information sessions during their tutorial classes. These sessions will outline each of the senior school programs offered and provided details of the content and expectations for every subject. Presentations will be recorded and made available via Compass for parents.

2022 Senior School Handbook – released Week 2 Term 3

This new document will be published for both students and parents in Week 2 of Term 3.

It will be a valuable resources and reference for students in their decision making.

Parent information webinars – Scheduled to begin Week 3 - 4 Term 3

Parents and students are encouraged to attend the senior school program event(s).

Each webinar will have a specific focus; Students starting their VCE, Students entering their final year of VCE and Students wanting to pursue VCAL.

These events are scheduled to begin in week 3. The dates and link for each event will be communicated via Compass.

Preliminary program and subject selections - Week 3 & 4 Term 3

Students will be able to complete their preliminary subject selections online in week 4 & 5. This initial selection will enable the school to begin planning the timetable for 2022.

Subject selection Conferences - Week 8 Term 3

Students and Parents will be invited to attend an interview in Week 8 to confirm 2022 program and subject selections.

At this time student 2022 programs (VCE or VCAL) will be confirmed.

Any decisions made at this interview will be dependent on student outcomes for the remainder of 2021. If a student has a change of pathway, changes can be made with a subsequent interview at the end of November Term 4.

Changes to the senior School Certificates - VCE/VCAL

What is changing?

As some of you may be aware the next two years will see the transition from two different senior certificates – VCE & VCAL – to just one single senior program but with a different focus.

Students will be able to enrol in VCE or VCE – Vocational Specialisation (rather than VCAL).

The Department recognises that this change must be rolled out over the next two years to allow those students already enrolled in VCAL to be able to complete their Certificates.

Why the change?

The VCE certificate is recognised internationally and valued by employers.

By providing all students with a VCE rather than VCAL Certificate students will have all the strengths of a Vocational Certificate without the stigma.

What does the new VCE Vocational Specialisation look like?

The new VCE Vocational specialisation will include all the strengths of the current VCAL program; flexible timetables (school, TAFE and work placement), opportunities for real life experience, subjects that prepare students for life and access to VET Training while at school.

As a school we will continue to provide multiple pathways for our senior students with both VCE and VCE- Vocational Specialisation.

Schools are yet to receive all of the details but rest assured Fairhills will be providing both an Academic and Vocational pathway for senior students moving forward.

Year 12 - Term 3 - University and TAFE Applications/Jobs Pathway Planning and Preparation

Term 3 is a time of planning for Year 12 students.

Tutorial time across the term will be used to deliver information and resources to help students in their planning.

University and TAFE Applications - VTAC ( Victorian Tertiary Admission Centre ) opens applications for University and TAFE on 2 August. Students must first create an account and then complete their application for courses, apply for scholarships and Special Entry Assistance if appropriate.

Applications cost $30 TBC – timely applications close on 30 September.

Students can also apply directly to TAFE.
Students need to ensure that they complete any additional requirements for their respective courses.
Students wishing to secure employment or Apprenticeships / Traineeships must ensure they have a resume and cover letter ready to go.
Parent and student webinars – we will be delivering an information webinar to assist parents and students in their decision making. Date and time of these events will be shared on Compass – watch this space.

All students will be interviewed by the end of the term to ensure they have all of the resources they need to make a successful transition into the community.
