School Council meeting report 31st May 2021

School Council met on Monday 31st May.

  • The agreement with our Sister School in Yokohama was discussed and it was endorsed to continue this relationship as an important part of our Japanese program.
  • The Annual Report has been completed and an AGM (annual general meeting) will be offered later this term.
  • JSC reported that they have been discussing outside play and ideas for activities at breaks, such as the Library being open again at recess and lunch. There were many positive aspects noted, including the Gaga pit, umpires in footy/soccer matches, being inclusive and the new soccer goals. They are also seeking feedback from their classes to support the Dress Code Review.
  • Education Committee updated that the Working Party for the Dress Code Review had met and sent out the survey to the community and staff for feedback. The Working Party will provide a summary of the feedback to the Education Committee to support in making recommendations to School Council regarding the review of the Dress Code Policy. It was acknowledged by members of School Council that the survey was well developed and thanks to those involved in the Working Party for their work so far. The staff continue to work on the Student Engagement and Wellbeing Guidelines documentation, outlining the work and structures that we do here at Moonee Ponds West.
  • The Environment Committee reported on their goals for this year, including the planting of an Indigenous Garden, setting up more nature play (logs) around Jack’s Paddock and organising some Working Bees. A Working Bee is tentatively booked for Sunday 1st August, to begin work on planting, installing logs, placing bird baths and laying of mulch. This will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
  • The Resources Committee reported on the DET School Council Financial Assurance Audit process that MPW has undertaken and recommended the approval of the 2021 Confirmed Cash Budget by School Council.

The next School Council meeting is scheduled for the 21st of June 2021.
