Infants

It’s been great to see all our happy and bouncy students (and staff!) back at school ready for Term 4! Thanks to everyone who has remembered to pack a hat, with a name, so that they can make the most of the sunshine in the playground when it’s out.

Everyone is knuckling down with their learning activities as we prepare for the end of the year and reports. We are also looking forward to Healthy Harold visiting us in a couple of weeks and we will focus on the healthy learning Harold teaches us after we have visited the van – always a highlight for our younger students!

K/1

K/1 have settled straight back into the term and are busy working hard to get all the learning done before they move into Year 1 or Year 2. We are focusing on our writing to make it more interesting using adjectives and writing more than one or two sentences. In mathematics we have been focusing on teen numbers as well as Australian money – we have been interested to find out when the King will be on our money and if we can keep using money with the Queen on it!

This week our class starts gardening with Ms Golden again and we are excited to be visiting the Ag Plot and seeing how our seeds have grown and hopefully picking some produce! We also had lots of fun and laughter with Ms Bridge during STEM when she became a robot and we had to try and program her to open a bottle of water… the students then had turns being the robot – playful fun learning how to give explicit instructions!

Buddy BEE Centre visits

Each Thursday a small group of Year 5 students are visiting the BEE Centre to meet and get to know our Kindy 2023 students as part of our Kindy Transition Program. All Year 5 students will take part during Term 4 when our dates align, giving them a chance to meet and join in activities at the BEE Centre with the students. This is a fantastic way of building relationships and having a familiar face for our newest students come their Kindy-Start days at school, beginning in November. Thanks to all our super Year 5 students!

Kindy Orientation Day

Last Friday we welcomed our Kindy 2023 students and their families to Boorowa Central School for our Kindy Orientation Day. It was so great to see around 20 students and their families come along to find out more about our Kindy Transition Program, hear from our newly elected School Captains about being a student at Boorowa Central School, have a wander around our school, meet and chat with some current Kindergarten parents, and be entertained by our Year 2/3 class on the boom-whackers.

It’s going to be a great big group of Kindy-Start students this year and we are all excited to help them prepare for big school next year. Thanks to all the staff who helped bring the day together, as well as our School Captains and Year 7 SRC Representatives who had fun playing and entertaining the children on the day.

The Year 3 to Year 6 students have started back in Term 4 full steam ahead! We have welcomed a new year six student, Jono and he has already shown he'll be a highly valued friend, learner and school community member. Welcome Jono!

This term is very busy with Primary Excursion, Year Six Farewell and Formal events, assessments, reports, Healthy Harold, book launches and many more.

A reminder that during Term 4 there is a strict NO HAT, NO PLAY policy at school. Only Boorowa Central School hats are allowed. If students don't have a Boorowa Central School hat, they need to be playing in the shaded areas.

5/6 Class

In the 5/6 classroom we have completed an investigation into Theme Parks in mathematics, finding out how they are run, using timetables, price lists, timers and many other things - it was great! In English, we have been writing two pieces of narrative writing, one on a video titled ‘The Piano’ and one about 'Bubbles'. All these pieces of writing will be assessed and go towards school reports. Exciting times!

In history, we are exploring the colonisation of Australia, specifically at the turn of the 19th Century, and in science we have begun exploring forces and electricity. Phew! Busy times.

I'm looking forward to an incredibly positive term with our 20 year 6 students and setting them up for a very positive transition to secondary school next year.

Year 7 Technology Mandatory

Year 7 have been working hard to complete their final dragster designs. Students have engaged in the design and construction of a laser cut plywood chassis. Most students have chosen to add spoilers and bumpers. Along with learning how to create a technical drawing, students have learnt basic illustrator, circuit wiring and solider skills. Every student must be commended on their engagement and consistent effort in the class.

Stage 5 Textiles (Year 9/10)

Stage 5 textiles have been developing their fabric embellishment skills to create a series of textured and patchworked toys. Students have learnt how to patchwork, use shrink sheeting, applique, create fabric pizza and undertake hand and machine embroidery. The toys complement the inspiration boards students created in Term 3. I am very proud of the progress and creativity being displayed.
