Principals Report

Dear Parents and Friends,

It’s been a busy week at McGuire College!  On Monday we welcomed families from across the area to our open day – students and parents took part in school tours led by student leaders from across the four College communities.  We also welcome several hundred families for presentations on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Feedback from the sessions has been positive, we encourage all families to continue to engage with us and ask questions about next steps, your questions and feedback is always welcome.

As many of you may have seen in the local papers, Minister Merlino visited Mooroopna Secondary College on Thursday to announce a uniform support package for the new school.

Families will receive a $200 uniform voucher for each child enrolled with Greater Shepparton College (interim name) in Term 4, to assist with the purchase of a new school uniform ready for 2020 commencement. These uniform vouchers can be redeemed at local uniform supply stores.

This is a one-off, and not common, investment from the Victorian government as part of their commitment to the school merger, which we are sure will be welcomed by families.

The school has established a uniform committee and is working on finalising colours and uniform items at the moment.  We look forward to sharing more with you soon.

As part of the open days this week we developed an information booklet about plans for the new school – the following is taken directly from the booklet.

Greater Shepparton College (interim name)

OUR ACADEMIC CULTURE: A CULTURE OF EXCELLENCE

The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.

~ Robert Maynard Hutchins

A school’s academic culture is based on values, attitudes, behaviours and traditions that are etched into the everyday operation of the school. Our academic culture comes from the diversity that exists in our school. We aim to ensure a sense of belonging within the school and allow our students to achieve individual and collective success.

Greater Shepparton College (interim name) generates a strong academic culture by:

• Focusing on exemplary teaching and learning.

• Incorporating 21st Century Learning Skills

• Ensuring that every student will achieve success and that the success is celebrated

• Developing high quality teacher practice

• Ensuring our community (teachers, students and parents) embrace the college values

• Providing students with the appropriate time and support (resources) to achieve their best

• Creating strong leadership that continually looks for improvement in students and staff

• Maintaining a physical environment that supports success and pride

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards

Claire Kelly
