Year 7 Sport – Term 1

The busy Term 1 sport schedule finished with the Year 7 Sport Day on March 22nd. Over 100 students participated in Volleyball, Cricket, Softball and Tennis. Overall, we experienced some very good results, with the A teams of all 4 sports winning their Division Finals and progressing through to the Regional Finals. Well done to all competitors and teachers for the role that they played in the success of the Year 7 cohort. Term 2 sees Netball, Soccer, AFL and Badminton on the sport timetable, and I would like to encourage as many students as possible to try out for a team.

Interschool Swimming 2018

The 2018 SSV Swimming season concluded last Wednesday at the SSV State Championships. Following on from our Regional Finals success, where MGC finished 2nd overall against all the state co-educational schools, we arrived at MSAC with the hope of equaling our 2017 medal tally of 8 medals.

Our star-studded team showed extreme professionalism on the day, arriving early to complete a warm up and familiarise themselves with the venue. After Charli Millard won a gold medal in MGC’s 2nd event of the day, a record medal haul was possible.

All competitors performed at their best, and MGC finished the day off with a total of 13 medals – 5 Gold, 4 Silver and 4 Bronze. While that is extremely impressive, another highlight of the day was finding out that we finished as the 4th best school overall on the day. This is an amazing achievement considering we are inly eligible to qualify in half the events.

Congratulations to all students who were involved in the journey. Especially to the medals winners, but also to those students who competed in a relay event in an older age group. This act of selflessness allowed some of our older students to compete when it looked like they weren’t going to get the chance.
