ANZAC Day

414 Squadron was present at the ANZAC Day Parade in the CBD, did you see us on the ABC? 23 cadets represented the Wing and MGC by carrying banners and supporting the march in a variety of tasks including the mass Australian National Flag group at the end of the march which were then used as a background for the moving ceremony at the Shrine of Remembrance. We specifically supported the Women’s Services carrying banners for the RAAF Nurses and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Australian Air Force (WAAAF) Banners. Well done to all cadets!

ANZAC Day Schools' Commemoration

On the 20th of April 2018, a group of students attended the ANZAC Day Commemoration Ceremony for Students at the Shrine of Remembrance hosted by Melbourne Legacy. School students from across Victoria were joined by our Governor, The Honourable Linda Dessau AC, who gave a speech honouring ANZAC soldiers, and the members of the Defence Force who have continued to serve past WWI. Students were then invited to lay a wreath by the eternal flame, first lit in 1954 by Her Majesty The Queen, in remembrance of the brave soldiers who gave their lives in Gallipoli, and throughout WWI. At the conclusion of the ceremony, MGC students visited the Edith Cavell Memorial. Edith Cavell was a British nurse in WWI who has inspired women and nurses ever since. She provided care and saved the lives of many soldiers from both sides of the war, the Allies and the German forces. Edith Cavell is perhaps most well known for her courageous efforts in assisting the escape of 200 Allied soldiers from German occupied Belgium. On 12th October 1915, she was executed by a German firing squad, after being found guilty of treason. MGC lay a second wreath at Nurse Edith Cavell’s memorial to honour her brave efforts.
